Speaking of tattoos...

Do you have any?  What are they?  Where are they?  Why did you get them?

Re: Speaking of tattoos...

  • I have 2 but really I guess they're just one because I got them in the same place (lower back).  The first I got is dolphins diving out of water (b/c I was a diver) and the other is the celtic symbol for life.  My mom, sister and I all got the same one but different colors and in different locations right after my dad passed away.
  • I have been tatted up (LOL) 6 times but one was an addition to one that I already had.

I have my name right above my naval. It was my first one, so shoot me.

I have my son's name with a little doggy on the outside of my left leg above my knee.

I have a "Tramp stamp" of a rose and rainbow.

I have a 3 leaf red clover on the inside of my left leg at my ankle with my daughter's name.

And I also have an upside down breast cancer ribbon with butterfly wings and a halo at the top of my back in honor of my ccusin who passed from breast cancer last year.
And the whole time, my future husband was in the room...... image image

[QUOTE]One tattoo, a small blue plumeria flower on my right hip.  The plumeria means "independence" and I got it on the hip that was fractured in an accident I was in when I was 21 that left me unable to walk for two months.

That's really neat, baystate.  I love meaningful tattoos, and it's awesome that you were able to recover from that.

  • At the moment I have two.

One's a series of stars on my upper right thing. I just think they're pretty, there's no reasoning other than that.

The other is an ankh on the back of my neck. Andypants lovingly calls it my vamp stamp because a) it's on my neck b) we all know I'm obsessed c) it means eternal life Tongue out

I'll be getting three more at least, but after deathexpensivebrilliantvacation is all over with. I've got a line of a poem I want on my ribcage, a white lightning bolt (in honour of Harry Potter) on my foot and a South African one somewhere... probably somewhere mid-side back.

  • I have two- one on each shoulder blade. First one is a (badly done) Celtic knot, about the size of a silver dollar. I got it because I'm quite Irish and quite proud of it. Also because I was left in a tattoo studio as collateral by a friend who didn't have any cash. That was about 13 years ago. The second one is about the size of a pack of cards. It's the Ravenclaw house crest from Harry Potter and it's only about 2 months old. It's beautiful and I love it.

  • I have one at the moment. It's a heart w/ vines and flowers in it on my right hip that I kind of regret. It was my first one, and while it's pretty, I wish I had put a little more thought into it, especially the placement. It's going to be all distorted when I get pregnant. I want to get peacock feathers on my feet (just because) and a happy little cloud on my wrist to symbolize one of my very favorite quotes-"I think the world really boils down to two types of people-those who see shapes in cloud formations, and those who just see clouds."
  • Just one. On my right hip/lower back, probably like 4 inches tall. It's a cross with some swirls coming off it, and inside the cross is the profile of a dove (hard to explain but kind of like if this picture (clicky) had just the top dove shaded in and lower down, in the longest part of the T). I'm not religious, but the cross was a necklace my mom gave to a friend for her confirmation. The friend gave it to me after my mom passed away, and it kind of became a symbol of my mom...the swirls are just to make it look pretty.
  • Fishy, I love your bodhisattva. A lot.
  • RIGHT!? I love him. I'm waiting to hit my weight goal, then it's off to the tattoo parlor for this girl!

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Speaking of tattoos... : Yeah, I had to get a crown last year from having a cracked tooth.  Coincidentally, I work for our family biz which is  a dental laboratory which is how I knew that crowns could have tattoos  And there's a  paw print on the other side of the crown.

Wow, I honestly thought you were joking at first.  Had no idea you could really get these!

I have zero tattoos, and don't plan on getting one any time soon.  They are just not my thing.

My brother, the Marine, on the other hand just got his third one.  He has a Mr. Kool-Aid Man and it says "Oh yeahhh!".  Then his buddy got a tipped over Mr. Kool-Aid Man (with kool-aid spilling out) and it says "Oh Noooo!"

  • I have two:

A Pirate Cupcake behind my right ear. I got it because my nickname at work is Frosting, and FI's is Cupcake, so it was something that was for both of us..

And the Scorpio constellation on my left wrist..

    I have two.

I love reading and went to school for writing. Books have made me who I am today.

And I got this one right before I moved out of IL and in with FI in Iowa: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v256/rubybramble/S5002844.jpg (not my mess in the background, btw) edit: also, that red spot is a heart.

  • I have one one my calf, about the size of my hand? Its waves and 3 sea turtles, one for me and one for each kid. I intend on it being my one and only, but if I have another child there is room for another turtle :)
  • I have none.
But I want a tree of life on my back.  I kept thinking about tribute tattoos for my family, and I finally decided on that, with a falling leaf for the family members I want to remember. I want "Grow where you're planted" enscribed up the tree trunk.

  • I don't have any, but I really want to get one. Right now, I want two birds on the back of my neck, in a style similar to this (but without the color):

  • edited October 2010
I have one on my lower back, the headdress of Seshat, Egyptian goddess of writing. It's surrounded by a tribal flames with bear paws, which symbolize good omens in native american spirituality (obviously, a tribute to my love of writing).

My second is on my upper back and is my Cherokee name, Usti Kamama (Little Butterfly) written in Cherokee characters. a bird silhouette is in the background, as the goose is my guide and I spent time rebahhing birds, which I absolutely loved.

Eventually I'll get the goose symbols, probably on my foot. I want to be able to hide it if necessary.

ETA--the one on my upper back is black and red, black to symbolize the West (direction of death) and red for the East (direction of lfe). One day I will get one in blue and white (north and south), maybe the goose symbol.
  • I have a decorative infinity symbol on my tailbone. I broke it when I was in gymnastics years ago and when my best friends and I went to get our "inifinite friendship" tats when I was 19 before I started college, that's where I wanted it, mainly because I have no nerves there anymore. I want to get 2 more, one of them down my spine that reads "I am my Father's Daughter" in czech. The other one I want to incorporate into my infinity for my mother, not sure how I plan to work that out yet though.

I don't have any tattoos. I've thought about getting a small one, but FI really can't stand them, so I guess I won't be doing that...

Best typo ever. It took me a minute to realize where you meant.

I have a silhouette of Elvis above my ankle on the outside of my right leg. I wouldn't call myself a huge fan -- I've been to Graceland only once and I don't think he's alive and touring the country's 7-11s. But I love him & his music so much that it was the right choice for me.

  • I have three... The first is a small rose on my shoulder blade.  I got it in rememberence of my mom (whose nickname was Rose) who passed away when I was 21. The second is on my ankle, and it is the chinese symbol for mother. After 36 hours of labor, and a subsequent c-section, I needed closure.  The third one is my largest and my most favorite.  Its a huge butterfly on my hip.  I got it when I was in the process of divorce, so that I would always remember that change is beautiful.

  • Sheshat...

    What is rebahhing birds?
  • I have two on my lower abdomen, low enough to be covered by my bikini. On the left I have a flame, about 1 1/2" high. It was really hard to get flames that didn't look like cheesy biker flames, but instead actually looked like fire. On the other side of it, I have a quote: "You call it hope - that fire of fire! It is but agony of desire:" from Tamerlane. I want another one, badly. At first, I was going to get the rampart lion because I did a semester in Scotland, but now I'm thinking I may just get a lion, I may or may not have a line of words coming out of his mouth. Haven't decided yet.
  • I've been dying to get an old-fashioned compass rose done on my left shoulder blade for ages. I used to draw them obsessively; in notebooks, sketchbooks, on my hands... Actually I really love anything to do with old world maps in general, only I don't want to go so far as to have an entire map inked on my back (although that would look completely awesome).

I was originally going to get it a couple of years ago, on my 25th birthday, but I decided to wait until after the wedding so my mother wouldn't freak out about me being in my wedding dress with a visible tattoo.
