I know that this isn't really an E question, but I figure that this board has a fair amount of moms on it who could be helpful. My cousin's GF recently gave birth. The couple is pretty much impoverished and have been the objects of scorn from my cousin's own father and grandmother over the whole very complicated, emotional situation. My aunt (his other grandma) is going to have a baby shower for the couple and I really want to be able to support this girl because I know how hard things must be for them. I'd like to give them a really useful gift that isn't just money. DH and I don't have a whole lot of money ourselves, but I want to get them something that they can really use/need, not just some cutesey litte outfit or something.
From the moms out there, were there any items that you found to be life savers when you had your first baby? I was thinking about a book on the care & feeding of sick kids because that is something people might not think of until it is absolutely necessary and one is confused and frazzled. Ideas? TIA.
