September 1st-summer or fall???

I'm planning my wedding for September 1st, 2013. I live in the SF bay area of California, so our weather is still very pleasant during that time (we're hitting 100 degrees right now!). I'm wondering if vendors (namely ceremony/reception sites) consider this a summer or fall date and if their rates change accordingly.  I know that fall officially starts on September 22nd, but many people automatically consider ALL of September a fall month.

Re: September 1st-summer or fall???

  • Whether vendors call the date "summer" or "fall" isn't really all that relevant - all that matters is what they charge, and the best way to find out that information is to call and ask.

  • Labor Day weekend is a pretty popular date for weddings, so I don't see you getting any seasonal discounts.

  • The only way to know for sure is to call and ask.  I wouldn't count on a discount in early September.  At this point, fall is actually becoming as popular or even more popular of a time to get married than the traditional June wedding.

This is so true. At the venue where I git married, they actually charged as much in September as in June. We saved a bundle by getting married in mid August instead.

  • I'm from the Bay Area as well and from all the vendor/venue research I have done, September is still considered high season here. Your date is actually Labor Day weekend so it can be a popular and expensive day. Most discounts start in November. As others suggested, your best bet is to research and ask. Gather prices for 2 different potential dates and go from there. Good luck!

  • In my area seasonal discounts don't usually start until November. We're getting married on the 20th of this month and we recieved no discounts.

  • In my area, September was considered 'High Wedding Season" still, and was literally double to triple the cost of just getting married a month later.

It wasn't until after we chose October 6th that we also realized it was our 2 year anniversary.  lol.

  • I got married Sept 1, 2012 and in the midwest, Aug and Sept are BUSY wedding months. So there was no discount. I would consider it late summer.
  • September is one of the most popular wedding months in the Bay Area. You will be charged just as much as any other summer month.

I got married sept 1 here in the bay and most places wait til oct/nov for discounts... Sept is beautiful weather here so it's still super popular. It's still considered summer
  • Every venue I've looked at hasn't offered discounts until November.
