I wouldn't.  Most people have some organizational process when it comes to getting mail.  They have a designated place they put things they need to respond to, or invitations / dates they need to remember.  If you hand me an invitation at work, or church, or when we bump into each other at book club the chances of it getting lost in the abyss of my purse or car is GREATLY increased. Spend the 46 cents or whatever it is now to make sure it actually makes it home.
  • Hand-distributing save the dates is okay because it's less of an issue if it's lost (it's essentially just an "FYI") but an invite requires an RSVP and, like Kate said, the chance of them losing it is greatly increased if they receive it by hand. Purse, car seat, on top of your car, one of many pockets, counters, etc.
  • I agree with Kate. If you handed it to me at work or a function, who knows where it could end up. I have a system at home, though.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

This is what I was going to say - to some people, it could look like you're just trying to save on postage! (I know that's not what you're doing, but it could seem like it.) To me, it just seems more "official" to mail them. I think it's fine to tell guests you see in person that their invite is in the mail, though.
