IT'S BIBLICAL

I have a writing contract at a site that bills itself as a "discussion" site. Basically, they want their hired writers to write up potentially controversial topics so that the site members have something to discuss, which usually means slinging ignorant opinions at each other.

I figured that the whole two wedding phenomenon among military brides (and civilians, of course, but not as much) usually gets blood boiling around here, so why not.

The comments have been mostly okay, except for one woman who has gone crazy, and unfortunately for me, I can't seem to just LET! IT! GO!

However, I thought you'd get a kick out of her justification for two weddings:

Again, I ask....Who are YOU to make this decision? Again I ask....ARE YOU AFRAID YOU WILL SOMEHOW HAVE TO PAY FOR IT?

What about YOU? Have you ever been married? If not, don't YOU want a beautifull day where YOU will get the wear the beautiful, white lace? I'VE HAD MY DAY. IT WAS A FAIRY~TALE WEDDING and we've been married for 17 years now. I believe that qualifies me to actually STATE THE TRUTH! ALL WOMEN ARE ENTITLED TO A WEDDING! It is BIBLICAL!

WHAT'S YOUR BEEF, HERE? WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM?

You are entitled to your big white wedding, ladies! IT'S BIBLICAL!

  • Yeah, TJ, what's your BEEF???

  • It's biblical?  Where in the Bible does it say every woman is entitled to her pretty princess day?

  • Beef. It's what's for dinner.

  • No, I wasn't entitled to a big white wedding. I wasn't entitled to showers or bachelorette parties either, since I wwas, <gasp> divorced. :/sarcasm font
  • I've been trying to come up with something witty to say about this and I absolutely fail. Biblical. Now I've heard it all.

  • I can't stop debating with this woman. I feel like it's my personal duty in life to explain to her that she isn't entitled to anything.

I'm sorry you feel you don't have a choice or any entitlement to what you really want, but I'm so glad you don't get to make such determinations for others.

I hope you have a lovely wedding, Sweetie, because YOU ARE ENTITLED. Deal with it.

Also, what's with all the "YOU"s? She writes like a televangelist.

I'm wondering the same thing as Alix. I just imagine her aggressively pointing at me, a lot, as she says her piece.

Edit: Holy quadruple post of this, sorry. TK is being really wonky. I think I was able to delete the extras, but my apologies if they still show up.

  • TJ, I'm sure you've gone round and round with this woman and have already explained this to her, but I read the OP again. Please let her know that a wedding is when two people legally bind themselves together and go through whatever process is due to make that union valid. That's a wedding, period. Any add ons are purely optional.

  • I can probably pull her out again tomorrow if I write about how putting those little registry cards in your invitations is way tacky.

I think it's in the letter of St. Bridezilla to the Bridesmaids. I think it was the one where St. Bridezilla tries to teach the Bridesmaids about their DUTIES.

  • I'm pretty sure that her idea of a wedding is nothing like what a wedding was like in biblical times.
And not to be weird here, but you get paid to do that? Really? Do you get paid to be here too?

Yes, it's a real job. I don't get paid to be here. I make negative money being here, I think. Good thing I'm entitled to a wedding, because I don't know how I'd afford it if I had to actually earn it.

  • If memory serves, a marriage ceremony in the Bible sometimes consisted of a man bringing a maiden into his tent to lie with her, thus making her his wife...

  • You guys are crazy, it IS in the Bible! It's in Hezekiah 4:32.

"For she shall wear a dress of white on the day of her wedding, and in the days to come, she shall defend her white wedding in internet forums for all the days of her life. Amen."
