Tipping for Trial Hair

I am having my 'trial run' hair appt tomorrow. The package that I selected included the trial, facial, brow wax, make up and hair all at one price. I expect to tip the esthetician for the wax/facial/makeup seperately, but the trial hair and final hair will be by the same person. Do I tip her twice? What price do I base the tip off of? Small tip now, larger one day of? Please advise. Thank you

Thanks, since it is a 5 item deal I am not quite sure what the cost would be. I am also avid tipper, former service idustry person here! Thats why I was not sure.... so the whole deal is $150 - not too shabby, huh? If I tip $20 now, $20 to the esthetician and $20 day of, I am tipping $60.00 on $150 which does seem excessive....But I dont want to go in there tomorrow and hand her like a $10(?) Oy vey, overthinking is my downfall these days...

  • I would tip for both.  They're providing a service on both days regardless of whether or not it's a trial or the final go 'round.

The trial probably costs less than the day-of hair, but I'd still tip.
  • Im in Minneapolis too... Where are you getting your hair done??? I love those prices!
  • I have a slightly different tipping question.  My haristylist is coming to my hotel to do my hair on a Sunday (when the salon she works at is closed). What is the tipping etiquette in this case?  I'm assuming she's setting her price and is not sharing any witht he salon since it's not a normal workday for her.

    Thanks.

  • I would tip based on whatever their price list says just the updo would be for your trial.

Sbradke - I would still tip the hairstylist even so it's not a normal work day. She's doing the same amount of work regardless.

Burley's Aveda Salon in Edina. Either $125.00 for Hair/Makeup or $150 for the whole enchilada! I have been going there for years and love the place!
