Are you a good idea.. or a bad idea?

My fiance and I decided to take our honeymoon cruise right after the wedding (Oct 2012) to save money- it's less than half price of when we were originally going to take it, but it will still be warm and nice to go. Anyway, while I was at a bridal show a few weeks ago, a travel agent I talked to said they can set up a registry so people could pay towards our honeymoon instead of buying us things we don't need. My uncle and his new wife did this as well for their wedding, but they did it through Carnival. We would still register elsewhere, but really, we both already live together and have just about everything we need. The only things, as of now, I plan on registering for are items for the kitchen that we really do need.

My mother seemed to love the idea, especially since we don't need that much and have a tiiiiiiny apartment, so we can't "store" things that we aren't using. But my FSIL kind of frowned on the idea, saying it's tacky to ask people to pay for something that is our choice. But isn't it their choice to put money towards this.. or buy us anything at all?

Just wondering thoughts on this. Has anyone else done this?
