XP Gatlinburg Tn help

Give me some things to do while there.

We have a cabin already and plan to relax and we are going into Gatlinburg to go to Ripley's and the Aquarium. What else? Any tips on good places to eat?

I posted before but bragging our cabin...

Re: XP Gatlinburg Tn help

  • I've never been there, but that cabin looks AWESOME!  have so much fun!!
  • We were just there in May.

    Two restaurants I recommend:

Hellbender Grill and there's a Mexican Restaurant right near the Aquarium. I don't remember the name, but you if you're facing the aquarium fom the main road, it's on your right. Something Cantina.

As far as things to do we went to Dollywood, Wonder Works (this was ok, but I thought overpriced and run over with kids), we spend a lot of time just hanging out, walking, shopping, etc. We didn't really go with a plan. I hear the Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant is a great place to go as well.

  • That cabin looks awesome!  Have you checked Groupon for any discounts on various activities?  They have several currently available.

Shows - I haven't attended any specific shows in Gatlinburg but they do have a Cirque de Chine show that has received great reviews.  The Dixie Stampede has also received great reviews.

Shopping.  There are tons of touristy shops and there is an outlet mall.

Traffic can get backed up.   I think there is still construction going on too.  Eastern TN has speed cameras so just keep an eye out for signs that state that the speed limit is photo enforced.  I don't think there are any in Gatlinburg but I am not sure.

  • I was all about the outlets - so do that.

There's a pancake house on the "strip" part of Gatlinburg, can't remember the name, but holy crap good. I got the whole wheat pancakes and they tasted like normal pancakes. YUM!

We went and played putt putt all over the place, I liked the Ripley's Farm one - it was cute.

We also raced a lot of go karts - there was one that was an elevated slick track that was a blast.

There's a Dinosaur ride on the main road in Pidgeon Forge - I can't remember the name, but there are mannequins standing outside dressed like they're going on a safari and "waiting in line" - it was $19 for Brian and I to go, but holy crap it was worth it. The ride itself was a joke and totally pathetic, but it was hilarious to make fun of it all the way through. Lots of the "effects" didn't work, but we were drunk so we didn't care - it was probably one of my favorite memories of our honeymoon.
  • LVB's family has a cabin there that they go to all the time. I'll bat signal her!
  • Bat signaled. We're not that ballin, but we do have a time share, so we go multiple times a year.

I'll tell you my 'must haves' when I go.

Apple Barn restuarant (not the grill, the Farmhouse). Fried chickn is the shiit. But, you get a TON of food, so share if you can.
Dixie Stampeed. You eat with your hands. I love the meal and the show.
Walking down Gatlinburg's strip, getting a foot long corn dog and people watching
"Pancakes". There's a million pancake houses. But this one is by I believe th Comedy Barn. There's no real name, just 'pancakes'. 31 different kinds.

We always drive up the mountain to the top and sometimes hike to Clingman's Dome. It's a hike for sure. Sometimes, we also drive to the other side of the mountain to Cherokee, NC. We've gone to the Ocannaleftee indian village. It's like a period set village. Very cool.

And of course Tanger Outlet Malls.

If you have any specific questions, just post here and someone will bat signal me : )
"In the old days my ass would be in your back yard picking cotton, so excuse me if I don't put much stock in how f*cking awesome the old days were." -Nuggs
  • Midge knows! She loves that place. I'd never heard about it til the knot.
  • *Poof*

Go to the Applebarn as other have already said. It's amazing.

Parrot Mountain is awesome if you like birds. You can feed parrots and the little lorikeets. They have a room with the baby birds in it that you can play with.

If the weather is decent, you have to go to Cades Cove or any of the other driving trails.

  • Oh! And the sig pic I have right now was taken at the Ripley's Aquarium!
  • TY guys. These are all great!

  • Lurker here, but I've been to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge just about every year for the past 10 years. Do yourself a favor and go to the Old Mill restaurant in Pigeon Forge. The wait is long, but the food is absolutely delicious. It's just off the stripv(the end closest to Gatlinburg) on Old Mill Rd. There are also several souvenier shops near the restaurant and a park.
