Groomsmen

My FI was a best man in his friend's wedding and also the only person to stand up in it. What's the rules for our wedding? Is it rude not to ask him to stand up too? Is it required because my FI did it for him?

Re: Groomsmen

  • It doesn't have to be reciprocal. If your FI wants to have his friend in the wedding, then by all means, he should. But it is not required.
  • Nope, it's not necessary. There's the possibility that the friend will get upset or whatever but get over it. It's your wedding, FI gets to decide who he wants to stand up for him.

Note: FI promised his friend back in high school that he could stand up as FI's best man... and now he's not so the "friend" (ha!) is pissed. So childish.

It's definitely not a requirement, but if he was the only groomsmen in his friend's wedding, he must have felt really close to him.  I'm by no means saying you/he needs to ask him to be in your wedding, but the friend might get slightly offended since he only asked your FI to be in his.  If ou are on the fence, it might be easier to just ask him and avoid any issues.  If you don't want him in the WP for some reason, then stick to your guns and don't ask him.
