Another Vegas post...

Despite all the great suggestions I received on here last week about places to go on a vacation, H and I have decided to go back to Vegas.  Hey, we're only young once and we've been wanting to go back ever since we left the last time!

I'm on this smartervegas.com mailing list.  The MGM Grand is having a pretty good special - 2 free buffet visits, and 2 free drinks at each of the 4 major bars, around $400 total for 5 nights.  My question is this - do you think that's among the best deals we'll get?  We'd have to book by January 30 to get this rate, and the new newsletter with different deals will be sent out on February 1.

Would you book this special, or wait to see what the next batch of specials brings?  Just curious.  Thanks!

Re: Another Vegas post...

  • Sounds like a good deal to me, was there a different hotel you were wanting?

  • Have you checked out other hotels? The Luxor sends out deal emails too.
When we went in September, our weekday rate was around $39, weekend rate was obviously much higher; the weekend brunch buffet was around $23, and I think a bar bill for 2 drinks was around $12. We stayed for 4 nights - Thurs - Mon, so we had 2 weekend nights included. PS - there's also a resort fee but it's listed on the website. I think it was around $40.

I've heard good things about Mandaly Bay but can't compare prices for you.

  • We got one from the Tropicana that is $50 per night with $50 in free slot play.

We are also debating going back to Vegas this year. I will share my deal if you share yours! Laughing
  • shelly, there's no other place in particular - I just didn't know what the chances were that there would be a better offer next month.

missy, the weekday rate is around $50 and the weekend rate is around $90.  Most of the places I've looked at seem to have resort fees, but MGM Grand actually doesn't.  Mandalay Bay does look beautiful!

When we went in November we stayed at MGM Grand for an average of $120/night, with all-day buffet access for 2 included in the price.  One of my fondest memories of the trip was the Sunday brunch, with $2.50 all you can drink champagne....and one of my least favorite memories of the trip was later that afternoon, when I woke up from my nap wanting to die from too much cheap champagne.
  • niffy, get on smartervegas.com!  There are a bunch of specials listed on their site, but if you sign up for the newsletter you get a bunch of even better offers emailed to you.
  • I go to Vegas at least twice a year, and that sounds like a heck of a deal to me.  Sure you want to go for 5 nights, though?  I get really really tired of the noise/crowds after 2 nights.

  • We were there 4 nights last time, and I didn't want to leave!  I also intend on doing some relaxing by the pool, so I wanted to build in time for that.
  • Ok, just wanted to check in case you had never gone for that long.  I have a fairly low crowd-tolerance.

  • I've only been once (this past New Year's). Was this the same part of the strip you stayed at last time? If so maybe try somewhere else? We stayed at Paris and it was really nice to be right next a more active part of the strip. It was easy to go to Bally's or Bellagio or Ceasar's (or Bill's if we were feeling cheap!)
  • What about deals for people who already have a hotel room? I know there are slim chances that any hotel would give us discounts on the bars, but it can't hurt to ask. We're staying at the hilton in march.

  • Sounds good to me. Do you want to stay on the strip again? I like staying on the strip, but I've also stayed downtown - little more sketch, but for a lot less money!

Seriously though, for the MGM Grand, I think that's great.

  • Abbie,
You know I am a huge proponent of downtown.  Also, you could sign up for Mandalay Bay discounts.  Check southwest vacations' rates as well.  I'll be in Vegas for work in February (9-12) so I won't make it out in April...but look up Sascha for sure!

I don't get married often, but when I do, I do it in Las Vegas.

  • Abbalish, they're in the same family - I think that's a great deal - I was just giving you some comparison rates. :) Wasn't trying to sell you on another hotel. I've only stayed at two places out there - LV Hilton and Luxor, for my wedding. I enjoyed the Luxor much more. The resort fee didn't add up to much, and that may have made up for the difference in prices. It may have been for the bottled water and newspaper we got everyday; who knows?

I liked being at that end of the strip - there's the shuttle and if you're up to it, hoofing it!

When I was typing my reply to you last night, my computer battery literally died out on me, so.....
