XP from A&A: Groomsmen Attire - A good idea?

This isn't Etiquette related, but I value this board's opinion.

I'm wondering if this approach to the Groomsmen attire is a good one...

My FI recently bought a gorgeous black, pin striped suit that looks amazing on him. We were thinking that, instead of renting a potentially ill fitting suit / tux for our wedding, he could just wear his own.

That got me thinking - instead of my FI having to arrange tux / suit fittings for however many Groomsmen he ends up having, it might be a lot less stressful for everyone involved if he just tells them:

'Show up in a black, pin striped suit - we'll provide the red pocket folds instead of flowers.'

That way, the Groomsmen can either 1) wear one of their own suits, 2) borrow a suit, 3) rent a suit, or 4) buy a suit (if it's something they wanted anyways).

This would give them the chance to set their own budget, and show up in a suit that they would (hopefully) be comfortable in; one that reflects their own personal style.

I've discussed this option with another friend of mine, who is also getting married, and she has reservations about it - mostly that the suits won't end up complimenting each other.

Personally, neither of us care for the 'matchy matchy' look; as far as I'm concerned, a guy in a suit looks good no matter what - but could we be leading ourselves into some unforeseen issues with this?
