response card help

Hi Ladies,

My FI and I are having a traditional Indian wedding.  They get pricey, and my dad was able to strike a deal with the reception hall.  A lot of my parents friends don't drink b/c of religious reasons.  So the reception hall gratiously is charging us only for those who don't drink based on the guest number.  However I don't know how to take count of non-drinkers w/o seeming tacky (there are a lot of people coming who probably don't understand that a lot of people aren't drinking for relgious reasons).  Is a response card along these lines appropriate (ignore wording, working on that. . .also do I have to ask?  can my parents ask their friends to be sure if they aren't drinking?):

___________ will be attending:

___ceremony  ___ reception ___ both

Food options:

___vegetarian ___ nonvegetarian

Beverage options:

___alcoholic ___ nonalcoholic

Re: response card help

  • I am confused as to how the venue plans on confirming that those people you say are not drinking, really won't drink. This seems overly complicated to me and seems like things could get awkward. Why not pay on a tab (as opposed to flat rate) so you don't even have to worry about this?
  • I know, right?  I feel like it's too complicated too.  I like the tab.  I'll bring it up with my dad.  Thanks!!

    I agree.
  • Thanks, M&M! J is a huge fan. No, that's not big enough of a word to describe. He bleeds Boston. I didn't have a baseball team before him (although I love the game - I grew up in a AAA team town) so I'm a die hard now, too :D
