We registered for fine china a few months back. Long story short, while it's not expressly being discontinued yet, the company will not guarantee it through 2010, which they WILL do for most of their patterns. (It's marked "limited amounts" on our registry.) The consultant at Macy's told me she thinks we should pick a new pattern and take ours off the registry before we get even MORE as gifts and get stuck with a half set.
Problem: we can't find another china pattern we like as much as the one we registered for and are considering just scrapping fine china altogether. But one of my BMs sent us a wedding gift already--5 months early--which was one of the china serving dishes. She knows about the china drama that's been going on and will notice if we take it off the registry, so not telling her is not an option.
How should we approach this? Tell her, return the china, give her the money back? Force ourselves to pick another china pattern and exchange the dish for the equivalent in the new set? Tell her, return the china, keep the money as a wedding gift? WWYD?
