Jay vs. Conan

Have you guys been following this? Conan released a statement basically saying that's not going to move to a 12:05 time slot and I totally agree with him. I just don't get why NBC is doing all of this just to keep Jay Leno. Let him go. He gave up his spot, his new show didn't work, he just needs to retire already. Ii think it's ridiculous to move the freakin Tonight Show that's been on for 60 years just so Jay Leno can have a show. All this and I don't even stay up late enough to watch late night tv!

Re: Jay vs. Conan

• Haha. I don't stay up late enough either and I've always preferred Letterman anyway :) Though I do think Conan is kind of cute for some reason.
• I've always preferred Letterman too, but I do like Conan and have never liked Jay Leno. I just don't think he's funny at all.

• Agreed. Jay should have stayed out after he left, i.e. leave on a good note.
The new show sucks. It just wasn't the same.
• I actually think that was very well written (by Conan himself or whoever gets paid to write stuff for him). He's got good points in keeping the tradition of late night. I also have wondered ever since Leno stepped down why he got a new show...can't he just go home and play with his 97 cars (or whatever obscene amount he has)?
• It's like Michael Jordan coming back over and over again........you lose the invincible, star power appeal each time you come back and you never live up to what you once were.
• Jay Leno = Brett Favre. They each know they should retire, but they're too scared to be out of the spotlight. Which is just sad and pathetic.

• I guess it was contracted that Conan would get it in 2009 awhile ago. I doubt NBC wanted to change anything, but had to.

I actually think that all of this hoopla will cause a temporary ratings spike for both Jay & Conan's shows but in the long run I think Conan should go to another network.

• I thought the changes were happening becuase affiliats were complaining that they were losing thier late news viewers ie; people watched Leno and then went to bed.

Yes and no. They were losing their late news viewers because people weren't watching Leno. They were changing the channel to watch something else and then not going back to the local NBC to watch the news. Leno's shows were getting terrible ratings apparently.

• I think Conan should go to another network. Let NBC deal with their golden boy Jay Leno and his suckatude.

I love Craig Ferguson. He makes me LOL every time I watch. Conan is right there with him, and Jay Leno has never and will never be funny.

• I think I am the only person on the planet who thinks Jay Leno is funny. I also don't find Conan that funny.

Either way, I think what NBC sucks. I don't watch either program regularly, but serious poor form on their part.

Exactly this. I'm so sick of Jay Leno at this point. Team Conan!
• I think this hurts Jay a lot more than it hurts Conan. He's clearly the one being wronged here and it just makes Jay look like a greedy jerkface. Conan is way funnier than Jay, even on a bad day.
• Random thought: remember weird conanabanana/jiveturkey and her obsession with Conan? I bet she's flipping her shiit over this.
• conanabanana

hahaha Georgia, I do remember her!
• I love Conan, and I hope he doesn't leave, Jay Leno is not funny, he makes sex jokes, and he's way too old, it makes him creepy.

• I'm not sure about this 100% so feel free to check this, but I'm pretty sure that Leno was supposed to retire a few years ago and hand over the show to Conan and it kept on being put on hold and in 2009 Jay finally stepped down. IMO Leno needs to stop doing late night and just do car commentary, he's not that funny, but I watch Top Gear on BBC America and he was great talking about his cars...but thats about it.

Also, Craig Furgueson is like a million times better than any other late night host.

• Yesterday on the news it was said Conan and Leno signed a contract 5 years ago for June 2009.

• I don't like Jay Leno, or Letterman. I like Conan, but I haven't been watching the Tonight Show. I think NBC's decision to completely give up on the 10pm slot in favor of Jay Leno has reallen bitten them in the butt, and it's going to take them a long time to recover. But Leno... needs to go.

For me, though, I don't care. My 11-12 time slot will always be filled by my dear lads Stewart and Colbert, and anything happening on the late night network shows pales in comparison.

• My love for coco runs deep. I think his statement was phenomenal, and lastnight he was absolutely on fire ripping apart NBC. It was hilarious (check out last nights episode, if you can. Conan is handling it in a totally Conan way, hes not rolling over and letting himself or Jimmy be F'd in the A either. I think thats commendable that he is refusing to basically bump Jimmy just so he can stay on, which is also a dig at Leno, who should really bow out completely. But hes a douche, and so is NBC so I dont know if that will happen.

I completely agree with this. His statement reminded me of his commencement speech I read a few years back. It's long but a good read: http://www.february-7.com/features/conan.htm

• You could tell though, lastnight on his show, how pissed off he is. Hes joking, because thats his way, but almost ALL of his jokes were about NBC being douche bags, and you can tell how mad he is.
• If I were NBC I would tell Jay Leno to take a freaking hike.

And also, I decided in 9th grade that Conan may be my soulmate.

• I'll have to look up last night's show and watch it. I don't blame him for being pissed. It doesn't make any sense that they would re-arrange their line-up to move Jay Leno's already crappy show to a different time slot ... hoping that would garner more viewers? WTF? Any other show that has crappy ratings gets cancelled (or picked up by some cable network). Jay shouldn't be any different.

• I *heart* Conan. He is the ginger of my heart. And I think Jay Leno and his ridiculously large chin need to go ahead and retire, because he's not funny.

• I really like Conan, he appeals to the nerdy side in me maybe. I think he, or his writers, wrote a very good, very classy letter to the public about the whole debacle. It sucks that all three of them are getting caught up in this soap opera style drama.
• I think conan is an aquired taste, I have been watching him since I was a wee thing and absolutely love him. I will be extremely disappointed if he is no longer on late night tv. NBC is forcing leno, but leno could graciously bow out and leave things alone, to my knowledge he has not done that. Conan had the balls to say he wouldnt screw Jimmy by bumping him back, but Leno doesnt seem capable of giving Conan the same respect.
