IUD=Ice cream (TMI)

I had my IUD inserted today.  woot woot.
It hurt, but it wasn't horrible.

I came home, cramping and cranky, and laid out across the bed.
I can lay down, I can stand up, but I can't sit up. Driving home was a B*TCH!
BF came in to check on me, and acts a little cranky himself.  He doesn't understand cramps, and I've been on the shot, so he's never had to deal with me cramping.

He had to make a Lowe's run, so I asked him to bring me back some coffee flavored ice cream.

He came home with Coffee Hagen Daz, some kind of Peace fishy Ben and Jerry's, and a heating pad.

So, I'm laying belly down on a heating pad, eating some awesome Ben and Jerry's, and knotting.  Gosh, I love that man.

  • I've known a few people to get the IUD and they said it is the most uncomfortable thing when they first get at.  But once they got used to it they love it.  So hopefully it gets better soon for you.

  • It kinda seems like it will pass.  If not soon, then I'm getting paid back for 5years of depo and no cramps.

I kinda feel entitled to his kindness.  I mean, I'm the one that keeps the baby-baking equipment out of commision.  I deserve a litte pampering.

    Hope it gets better soon!
  • Awww I'm so glad it went well!  heating pads definitely helped me (and a large Blueberry Pie ice cream from Coldstone...yum!)

  • Since you brought it up, do you have children? I've been thinking about getting the IUD, but I don't have kids and sometimes doctors will only implant in women with children. Just curious!

  • Haha, that's exactly what happened when I got mine.  I ate a pint of Haagen Daz, took a tylenol pm, drank a glass of wine and passed out at 9:00.

In the morning, it was all better.  Everyone has bad cramps the first day or two, but they go away quickly, and you'll be much happier.
  • When  I got mine I wanted something warm--that warmth made my stomach area feel better--that and the heating pad. Don't worry it gets better. I can attest!

I have IUD, I had it put in 6 weeks after I had my son. I have had a few side effects with mine. Some that I wasn't even told about. I would suggest that anybody who has this, or is thinking about having it put in, TO RESEARCH!

I hope that you get to feeling better. Have the BF pamper you. The cramping should stop in about 1-2 days. Midol helped me. :) Good Luck!

  • I cramped really badly the first day (no kiddos here) and driving 1.5 hours on a bumpy highway was utter torture.  I had a few lingering cramps for a couple days afterwards, then it was fine.  I did have cramps for two or three months when I had my period, which I never did before.  Then those disappeared too, along with my period.  I love having an IUD.  i'll definitely do it again after I have kids, too.

I've done some research, but I'm not sure what you are refering to.
Do you care to share?  Or PM me if you're not in to sharing TMI like I am...lol.

  • Well, like I said each person is different. I had the cramping the first few days. Sorry this is going to be TMI, Bleed for a month and a half to two months. Then it stopped seemed like everything was going good. Then I noticed a lump in my breast. I was like ok, we have a cystic breast disease that runs through the family, I am 20, didn't think much about breast cancer, it can happen, but just kept an eye on it. Plus me not having medical insurance. I started to gain weight, which was suppose to not happen with this birth control. Still, didn't mind a little, but then  it became more, and was really hard to get off. Then I started to have weird cramping. I figured that it might be one of those rare periods about to happen. No period, but cramping and a lot of discomfort. I took some Midol and it went away. Well then I noticed my hair starting to thin. I know you are suppose to lose some much hair a day, but still over looked. Well then my hair started coming out in pretty not normal amounts. Still sucked it up, as long as I didn't have bald spots in my head I was ok. Then I started getting weird discharge. It was tinged with blood. Then I started spotting. I still hadn't had a period, so that's what I thought it was. This continued for quite a while. I know my body and knew that this was not normal. I had recently been sexually active. Pregnancy is not common on IUD, but it is heard of. So, I started researching online all of my symptoms. I ran into a site where this woman was experiencing the same thing, and also several other women. The thing that we all had in common is that we all have the IUD.

I still have mine. Don't have medical insurance, and DEF don't want another kid. So, I will try to stick it out. I would rather go through all of this, rather than going through labor again. Like I said everyone is different. I know some that have it and love it, and then some that have it and hate it. I just highly recommend that each person researches it before they get it, and make sure that it's for them.
