Is it really necessary?

I'm putting together some 'bathroom baskets' for my guests to use during the wedding.

I've seen all kinds of 'cutesy' poems explaining how to 'take what you need and leave the rest for others,' but honestly I find those poems mildly insulting. I don't feel like adults need to be reminded to share with others.

However, there's usually a good reason these sort of things catch on, so here's my question:

Would it be enough to just put 'Compliments of the Bride and Groom' on the baskets, or (from your own personal experience) am I running the risk of having the baskets pillaged without some form of explanation on how best to utilize them?

I'm closing in on my wedding date, and these are the inane details that keep crossing my mind, haha.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think you need a note. "Compliments of the B&G" is fine or nothing at all. This stuff isn't even required in the first place. If someone ends up taking everything, oh well.

  • You don't need a note.

Hell, you don't need bathroom baskets.

    This.

Most adults know not to take the entire contents of the basket but if they do there really isn't anything you can do or a note can do to stop them.

Oh, I know the baskets themselves aren't even remotely necessary. It's just something I want to do. I'm very much of the mentality (for all things) that I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

But someone made a good point; if someone's going to take the whole basket, a note isn't going to stop them.

I'll stick to my Compliments of the Bride and Groom plan.

    Thanks!

  • We're not putting out any kind of note. People know that it's not a personal shopping center for floss and bandaids.

The only thing to consider is if your bathrooms are just for your guests, or for anyone who is at the venue for other events and/or the general public. If they are available to everyone, you may want to skip the baskets.

Very good point - yes, the bathrooms will be for my guests only, otherwise I'd have probably skipped the baskets altogether as well.

  • We had a note on the mensroom basket at my DD's wedding and a guest loaded all the stuff into his pockets right as the reception began. All that was left was what he couldn't fit. Lol So a note isn't going to stop someone from being greedy.
