Have you

Been effected by the closure of European airspace?  I'm just wondering because it's a hot topic for us International folks, but I haven't really heard anything about it over here.

Re: Have you

  • One of our local Knotties got married Saturday and her photographer was stuck and didn't make it to her wedding.  This is a very high-end photographer and the one she had dreamed of photographing her wedding for years.  I'm sure her pictures will still be fabulous but I know she was disappointed.

  • I have in relation to work, but that's because the flight schedule is so wonky right now.  There is no way to predict what time the flights get here, or if they will cancel, so everyone's pretty much on standby.

Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • It will depend on how long the ash stays in the air. We have a travel abroad course going on at work and it's leaving to go to Europe in a few weeks. If it gets cancelled, THEN my life will be a little bit hellish because I'll have to try to get refunds for the students.

  • Also, I heard at lunch time that flights out of St. John's NFLD have been cancelled due to the ash.  This could be wrong, but figured it fit the question.

  • A co-worker is stuck in London.  She was supposed to fly to Morocco from there and then back to here...but she's still in London.
  • If I do count there are 4 teachers, out of 20 and 14 TAs out of school, plus the head mistress.  One teacher was offered the first flight out May 10th!
We are a special needs school and have 1 teacher plus 2-3 aids per class, it's bad.

One of my students is stuck in Sri Lanka.
  • My BIL is supposed to fly in from Australia next week.  Not sure if he'll be effected or not.

If this stays around long enough, we may not be able to leave France on schedule (in 5 weeks) so I'm not crossing my fingers too hard on that one).

  • I haven't been effected, but I've been watching the story.  I lived in Germany for 8 years, so I am always interested in European news.  I wish there was more in the USA.

  • Depending how long this lasts FFIL could be stuck in Germany... I think he has a chunk of time left before he comes back though. It wouldn't be too bad for him though he is retired and saying with his sister and brother-in-law.
