Checks recieved befpre wedding

I can't remember how this works....halp.

I know when you recieve a tangible wedding gift before the wedding, you send the Thank You note as soon as you can but don't use the item until post-wedding.

How does it work with checks? We just got a check in a card from someone who won't be able to attend our wedding. I know we should send the Thank You right away so they know it was recieved but do we just hold on to the check and not deposit it until after the wedding? Or is it okay to deposit now?

  • Deposit the check right away so it's not just hanging out there for them.  Deposit right away, send the TY note right away, save the money for after the wedding.

  • I agree.  I hate when I write checks and people take forever to cash them.
  • Look at the date they wrote on it- if it's in the past, cash it- if it's the wedding day I would wait

  • I agree with everyone.  Cash the check right away and send them a thank you but hold onto the money until after the wedding.

    Awesome - thanks, girls.

I didn't even think to look at the date they wrote on the check but obvs if it's not until May 22nd we'll be waiting ;-) If it's in the past from when they mailed the card, into the bank the money shall go.
