Children at receptiion???

So is it fair for me to say I'm having an adult reception but people that are in the wedding can bring their children and family can as well? I'm afraid it may seem a little shady if I send out invites that say adult reception and then when guests get there there's like 15 kids. My mother seems to think its okay. What are your thoughts???

First off, I can't see how having 15 kids would be considered an adult reception.  If there are already 15 kids, what difference does it make if there are a few more?  Also, you don't put that on the invitation.

Ditto PP. If you're inviting 15 you should invite all kids. And you shouldn't ever call attention to who isn't invited on the invite. Just make sure you clearly address the invite to who exactly it is that you're inviting, and consider personalizing the RSVP with their names already on it as well.

Well, then you wouldn't be having an adult reception.

And you shouldn't send out invitations that say adult reception anyway.

1) It's rude to indicate in writing those you intend to exclude.

2) In your case that's a bold-faced lie.  You're not having an adult reception.

As long as there are no overlapping guests from the WP to other criteria then I think what you're doing is fine.  For example, if 2 out of 3 siblings are in the wedding which means not all nieces or nephews are invited I think you could have some hurt feelings.  But as long as you're saying "WP only" I think it's OK.

Just address the invitations to those you want to include.

Put the names of each person who is invited on the invitations. Common knowledge is that if your name isn't on the envelope (inner or outer), then you aren't invited.  Nothing is preventing them from calling and asking you.
