WTF!!! Wishing Well Enclosure

This was enclosed in an invitation to my FI's friend's wedding:

Because at first we lived in sin
We've got the sheets and a rubbish bin
A gift from you would be swell
But we'd prefer a donation to our Wishing Well!!

I though it was hilarious but I think some people will find this offensive!  I can just picture their grandmother reading it....

Is it a cash wishing well or one of those honeymoon ones where they are supposed to bring silly stuff like sunscreen etc?

If its cash, I would bring coins.  I never throw dollar bills in wishing wells

Man, in my area Wishing Wells are for inexpensive kitchen things.  Those (^^) sound so much more tacky.  Why don't they just call it a donation box?

Yeah I'm pretty offended by the whole "living in sin" phrase. Who says that to people let alone about yourself.

I am willing to bet my life that this originated from an idea posted online from an Australian (both the idea of the wishing well, and the poem including the phrase 'living in sin' which is said frequently here). 

 

I have seen very similar inserts in invitations here before- and here, a wishing well is regarded as better etiquette than a registry by many people (because it is anonymous and is at guests' discretion).
