XP:When do you?

Say thank you to your guests for coming to the reception? Or are you not supposed to say something?? Also is this when you say thank you to your parents? Are you doing the talking or is FI??

Re: XP:When do you?

  • The reception is technically the thank you for your guests attending the wedding. Many people do favors which are also considered a thank you for coming.

We gave a little toast to our parents at the RD and gave everyone their gifts there as well. Some people choose to do it on their own time, but whatever works for you is fine. My H did most of the talking b/c I was too emotional.

  • A lot of B&Gs do table visits during the reception to make sure they personally thank everyone.

My father thanked all the guests for attending when he gave his welcome toast at the beginning of dinner.  Then H thanked everyone at the end of all the speeches.  Also, we did table visits to thank everyone.

We thanked our parents on our own.  In addition to thanking them at the end of the night, we both wrote them great cards that we sent with our parents' gifts (photo albums of the wedding and gift cards for fancy dinner).

we gave a thank you toast to our parents at the reception. we both spoke.

and we thanked our guests for coming to the reception during the toasts, right before the best man speech
  • At my first wedding, my ex- and I thanked our parents and our guests in a short speech about midway through the reception. We both spoke. (Of course we also did table visits to speak with guests individually.)
  • My FI and I plan to give a short speech thanking everyone for coming when they first sit down for dinner.

We also plan to make the rounds during the cocktail hour / reception to speak to every person individually.

However, we're only inviting 70 people (expecting 50-60), so speaking to each person individually is possible.

I am planning to go table to table and we do have favors for all of our guests I just wasn't sure if we were supposed to do a little thank you all so much for coming speech and if when we did that if we should thank our parents again at that time! :) THANKS AGAIN!

  • my husband and i did a speech after the BM and MOH did theirs.  we also thanked people throughout the evening when we visited with them.  we also sent thank you cards to everyone (gift or not), which is not required by etiquette.

[QUOTE]It's called a receiving line.  If you're not doing one, then you need to visit every table and thank them.

Thanks! I get what a receiving line is and of course I am going around to every table to thank them...that wasn't what I was asking. I was asking about doing a speech in addition to that where I would also give a special thanks to our parents.
