Alcohol?

My fiance are in a rut with what to do about alcohol at the wedding. We are looking at around 130 guests and most of the people on my fiance's side of the family do not drink for religious purposes (we counted about 40). No one on my side of the family are heavy drinkers, but they will have a drink or 2 if it s there. I cannot justify having an open bar and throwing away that much money on 40 people who will not even touch the alcohol. My family thinks that cash bars art tacky and not proper etiquette. We were looking at running a tab and setting a tab to a certain amount of money, but have no idea how soon we would reach the tab. Any suggestions on what to do here? Thanks!!!

Re: Alcohol?

  • We did beer, wine and soda at our wedding, that's my recommendation also if you are unable to have a consumption open bar option. Talk to your venue and see what they offer. Or ask if they can work with you on this.

  • We are in the same boat with a lot of non drinkers and a few drinkers, so we are able to buy our own beer, wine and a signature drinkl. Our caterer allows us to buy the alcohol and then whatever is left we get to take home. So we are buying local wines that we like and beers that we know people like to drink and doing the Sweet Twea Vodka with Lemonade. See if your caterer will allow you to supply it.

  • My BM was in a similar situation with her wedding and went with a consumption bar, and said it definitely saved her a fair amount of money over having a full open bar.
