1. Those who have registered, did you do it online or in person/in-store?

2. Pros and Cons of registering online?

3. Pros and Cons of registering in person?

4. Great places that you think are great for registering in low price, mid price, and high price?

Re: XP from my notsobusy local

  • I caught it here before the local lol.

    1. We have done a combo of online and in-store. I went in to start the registries in-store to save time (FI has about 6 hours free per day, usually spent sleeping). I just stopped by to scan 3-4 items, then did more at home with him.

    2. Pros of online: quick, easy, convenient, more variety Cons: Can't actually see/hold items as well

    3. Pros of in-store: Can hold the item, look at it more closely Cons: Limited hours, sales people, have to actually travel there.

    4. Williams and Sonoma for high price. Otherwise, I think Crate and Barrel, Macy's, and BBB all provide a good mix of high, medium, and low. We did BBB and Macy's.
  • 1. Those who have registered, did you do it online or in person/in-store?
We registered at Target and Crate & Barrel (in person) and Anthropologie (online). However, I later added a few items to the registries online.

    2. Pros and Cons of registering online?
Pros...it's fast and easy to compare similar items. Cons...you want to make sure that the items are also available in store (in my experience, most guests don't order online).

    3. Pros and Cons of registering in person?
Pros...it's fun to use the scanner! :) Cons...none, really.

    4. Great places that you think are great for registering in low price, mid price, and high price?
Target is good for low to mid range stuff. Plus, most people live near a Target. Crate & Barrel actually has lots of lower priced items, but only a few guests actually purchased from there. I think most people think it's more expensive than it really is. Macy's is probably good for some higher-priced items.

I did all my registering online.  I would do it when I was experiencing insomnia or procrastinating from work.  The problem was that I couldn't see stuff in person.  If I had known that my china vegetable dish was going to be so small, I would not have put it on my list.  I feel guilty that someone paid for that tiny thing.

I registered at Williams Sonoma, Macy's and amazon.  I made sure there were well-priced things everywhere.  My guests preferentially bought off the Macy's registry since there are so many sales.

Eta: also, when I "completed" my Macy's registry, I did it on a sale weekend, so I got 20% off onto of the sale price.  Sweet!
  • 1. Those who have registered, did you do it online or in person/in-store?  We went to the stores to start the registry and put a good amount of stuff on.  We have been adding items here and there online.

    2. Pros and Cons of registering online? Pros: you can look up reviews of products right away if you are curious. Cons: you can't hold the product and sometimes things look different in person.

    3. Pros and Cons of registering in person? Pros: you can touch and see things up close.  You may pass by something that you wouldn't think to search for online.  Cons:  it can be exhausting!

    4. Great places that you think are great for registering in low price, mid price, and high price?  We registered at Bed Bath and Beyond and Macys.  BBB definitely has more of a selection of lower priced items, plus everyone seems to have those 20% off coupons!

]So. I'm thisclose to registering for all my shiz. Questions:
    1. Those who have registered, did you do it online or in person/in-store? Combo - started in store, added online.
    2. Pros and Cons of registering online? Pros - lots of selection, easy to compare items, can do it from the couch in PJ's.  Cons - can't feel/touch/see everything if you have questions.
    3. Pros and Cons of registering in person? Pros - scanner is fun, Can see/touch everything (important for towels and sheets :)).  Cons - more limited selection in the store.
    4. Great places that you think are great for registering in low price, mid price, and high price? We didn't need much and wanted to save for when we sell our house - so we registered for some stuff at Macy's (upgraded towels, some kitchen gadgets), a fairly small registry.  I have heard bad things about Target's return policies, and I kind of think the quality of most things at BB&B sucks (I have 2 sets of sheets from there and the hems came out of all of them after just a couple of washes, among other issues), so I don't shop there as a rule.  If we had registered for more stuff, we would have probably gone to Williams-Sonoma, and Crate & Barrel.

  • 1. Those who have registered, did you do it online or in person/in-store?
    We registered online at Target.

    2. Pros and Cons of registering online?
Pro- we could take a ton of time. We spent a couple of weeks going back, thinking of more things, adding them, etc.
Con- Some items we registered for weren't necessarily available at certain stores. Most of our guests figured that out and bought things online, but I had a couple of people say "I wanted to get you XXX but I couldn't find it in the store."

    3. Pros and Cons of registering in person?
We didn't do this, but I do think it would be fun to walk around the store with that scanner in your hand and scan everything that looks good. :)

    4. Great places that you think are great for registering in low price, mid price, and high price?
We only did Target, just because I didn't want to deal with multiple registries. They had a good selection at all price ranges (I thought).
  • 1. Those who have registered, did you do it online or in person/in-store?
We signed up for our registries online. We thought it was easier to have all the stuff entered and when we got to the store we just had to learn how to use the scanner. However, we did put a few items on each list that we already knew we wanted (i.e. certain color of a KitchenAid stand mixer).

    2. Pros and Cons of registering online?
Pros...signing up was so easy, you didn't have to write anything down for anyone or spell out names for someone else to type in. Sometimes they offer products online that you can't get in stores or they have additional colors (when the store only carries the basics).
Cons...you can't hold and feel the item. Colors often look different. Sizes are not what you expect. Fabrics aren't as they seem online.

    3. Pros and Cons of registering in person?
Pros...you can see color, size, fabric, material, etc. You can often see more details. You can open the drawers and look inside. It can be super fun to scan things (my FI LOVED this part). If you go with your FI (or someone else), it could be a fun experience.
Cons...it's exhausting. It takes hours, even if you know what you want before you go in. I've heard of couples that get in fights over it (probably because they are tired/hungry/crabby). A good friend registered right after we did and they hated it. They person that explained it all to them followed them around the store insisting they put things they didn't want on their registry because she just KNEW they would want them later (I would have told her to back the step off my friends are too sweet and it was something they just put up with).

    4. Great places that you think are great for registering in low price, mid price, and high price?
Low...Walmart (yes, some people will poopoo/side-eye this but Walmart has EVERYTHING and I know I would feel better knowing that my friends/family got the best price and saved money), Target (I've heard horror stories about returning stuff and them forcing you to get things in certain categories but they do have cute stuff).
Mid...Bed, Bath & Beyond (they are AMAZING, plus those coupons they send out in the mail are honored no matter their expiration date and if you have 100 items, you can use 100 coupons, they have a bonuses for certain items, they offer the "completion" discount, etc)
    Macy's, Crate & Barrel
High...(sorry I have nothing for this...we stuck to the "affordable")

  • 1. Those who have registered, did you do it online or in person/in-store? In person.

    2. Pros and Cons of registering online?

    3. Pros and Cons of registering in person? Pros: Actually getting to see and feel the quality what of were registering for; getting everything explained to us and being able to ask questions; being able to ask for help from associates if we couldn't find something or had a question about something.
Cons: It didn't happen to us but other people who were registering at the same time were escorted around the store and the salesperson kept trying to get them to register for all kinds of stuff they didn't want/need.

    4. Great places that you think are great for registering in low price, mid price, and high price? We did our most registering at BB&B. They had the most options and everything that we wanted. They also have a 20% off completion event each quarter for newlyweds and you can buy anything that was not purchased at that time. They didn't even care if it was on the registry or not, they just rang everything up and did a blanket 20% on the whole cart.
