Shipping dress to BM

My wedding is in Iowa and I have a bridesmaid who lives in NJ. She is coming to visitin a few weeks but the dresses won't be in until late May. She mentioned that her mom would pick it up and ship it to her but I'm thinking that I might ship it for her. Has anyone shipped a dress and have an estimate (more of less) of how much it was to ship? I know it depends on the weight but it's a simple satin, strapless tea length dress. Any ideas?

I was thinking that it might need to be steamed. I'm just worried about the condition it'll be in when she gets it. I should probably get the shipping insurance with it.

I don't think you'll have much to worry about.  Maybe get one of those big ziplock bags to put it in if you're worried about water damage.

I did UPS shipping.  Took 4 days from IL to FL.  Just packed it up in a small box, she needed to get it altered and steamed anyway.  It was $20.  Small price to pay for your BM to get her dress......

sorry i'm no help. 

i have to ship my MOH (my sister) her dress (WA to TX), but the store made a mistake with our order and so they're paying for the shipping.

How much earlier is she coming in for your wedding?  If she is coming in town a week before she could probably get it altered in town and you wouldn't have to worry about shipping it and she wouldn't have to worry about traveling with it and it getting re-wrinkled.
