Cake size question

Hi!

My reception venue comes inclusive of 3 desserts guests can choose from. Knowing the restaurant, I know they will be delicious. I still want to do a cake cutting, however.

So here is my question. Would it be rude to get a smallish cake, one that wouldn't allow a piece for everyone, but will definitely be another option? We are going to be having about 120 guests, and I assume a lot of people will opt for the desserts the venue provides.

Re: Cake size question

  • I am a huge fan of cake and would be pissed not to get a slice.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

    I will second this.

With any type of food you have, no matter if it is apps, entrees, or dessert, you should have enough so that every single guest can have a piece/slice.

  • You need to get enough cake for everyone. If everyone ends up wanting a piece, you'll piss people off if they don't get to have one.
  • Haha k good to know. The cheapskate in me was saying "eh it'll be fine," but the etiquette side was saying no. I'll go for the bigger cake.

[QUOTE]If it is a cost concern you can get a small cake to cut and a sheet cake to serve.

Oh I didn't even think of that. Thanks, good to have options.

  • Can you just "cut" one of the desserts that is already on the menu?  Like if one of the options is cheesecake, then cut that...or tiramisu, or whatever you happen to be serving to everyone else.

  • I've been to a lot of weddings where they have a small cake to cut, but they have many other dessert options (mostly cupcakes). I honestly didn't really miss the cake because the other desserts were so good.
  • Sounds like you're already leaning to accommodate everyone with enough cake plus other options. I still wanted to share my experience though... We did different flavors for different tiers thinking we would accommodate different guests' tastes. We actually had a guest complain that there wasn't enough of the "good" tier! And sadly, we only got the shared bites of the piece we cut, and none of the groom's cake, which was actually our favorite flavor.
