gifts for your parents?

My FH and I have been thinking of leaving out wedding day gifts for our parents. They have not contributed to our wedding, I understand gifting them as a "thank you for the help" but that is not the case for us. We do plan on getting them a wedding album for Christmas (our wedding is in November). Would this be a rude move for us?

Re: gifts for your parents?

  • Parent gifts are not "thank you for the help" gifts; they're "thank you for putting so much time, effort, and love into raising me and supporting me, etc."  Plenty of people on TK give the parent albums as a gift after the wedding (as a wedding thank you gift, not for a separate gift giving occasion).

  • I think that you should get your parents SOMETHING to thank them for raising you and supporting you.   It can be a photo frame (that they can use for a wedding photo later), a nice letter or card, restaraunt or spa gift certificate, etc.

We did restaraunt gift certificates for each set of parents ($100 each) that we presented at the rehearsal dinner, and we just gave each set of parents a custom-made album that I designed on Shutterfly for $50 each.  You don't even have to spend that much if you don't want to -- it's really the thought the counts.   But yeah, you should get them SOMETHING.
