when to send Save the Dates and Invites?

I'm planning a destination wedding and a local back home reception.  I am confused over how to do the save the dates and invites.  I have a big timeline to work with so that i can save up, and most guests that would be invited to the ceremony in FL would need xtra time too.  I am unsure when to send the Save the Dates to begin. I don't want to do them too early but i want to leave people enough time to make arraingments and save up for it.  I was thinking maybe a yr ahead of time, since i've read up on it a lil and that seems to be the most recommened timeframe I've see, but it seems too soon to send the Save the Dates to those invited to the reception only, but I don't want anyone to feel hurt if all the save the dates don't go out at one time.  I'm sorry if this post is confusing :) but the whole situation is confusing to me...

I had to quote because your formatting is super weird.

STDs are sent usually 6 to 9 months in advance.

Also, are you having a private ceremony with just parents and siblings? If not, it's inappropriate to have reception only invites.
  • Wait. You're going to have a DW, but then having a party at home? Why on earth aren't you getting married at home, or inviting your guests to FL for the reception? If you are actually in Pittsburgh, FL is not THAT far away, nor do I think it's terribly expensive to get a flight out of PIT to anywhere in FL.

<div>There is no reception in FL just the ceremony</div><div>
</div><div>We are planning to have the ceremony in Daytona with just immediate family and a large reception (we consider it large at around 200) back home in PA since all our family is from PA....I always wanted a beach wedding and Daytona is like a second home to me as it has been my family vacation spot my whole life, and now it's me and my fiances vacation spot with plans to move there in the future.  It is more expensive than most of my guests can afford at this time to all go down for the ceremony, so a reception back in PA is the best way to go for us.  </div>

</div><div>wow I just saw how my post quoted in your post and i have no idea why those extra letters are in there like that...odd</div>
  • I would just send them out as soon as possible if you want everyone to have time to save money and prepare. I believe that 6 to 9 months ahead of time is generally what people do, but what difference does it make really? If you think your guests will need more time send them early.

Also why would you send them at different times? Even if there are two seperate wedding events there's no reason not to send them all at the same time. Have you thought about how you're going to do them? Were you planning on sending out two different STDs?

I'm planning on sending mine about a year in advance myself. I want to make sure that everyone has a date in mind for it a good amount of time in advance. I decided to go with these magnet save the dates from Wedding Paper Divas: http://www.weddingpaperdivas.com/shop/save-the-date-cards.htm. I feel like no one saves cards anymore so a magnet is a neat keepsake, and it'll help to keep the date on everyones mind if our cute STD's are on the fridge.
