Thoughts on Britney

So she's refusing to allow her latest photoshoot for a Candies ad to be airbrushed or photoshopped or anything.  Here's the "before" and "after" shots.  Part of me thinks it's great that she's trying to show the issues the media has created with unrealistic body image, but another part of me is thinking "why didn't you do this from the beginning?"  Do you think if more celebrities started doing this it would affect the mindset of women, or do you think it's too ingrained in our society's subconsious now regardless?

Re: Thoughts on Britney

  • She's just doing it because Jessica Simpson is doing it on some other magazine cover to promote her new show about real beauty.  That's what I think.

  • Both retouched pictures look like a different body from the waste down.  Weird.

  • Because, in the beginning she was, what, 15?

It's gotta take some guts to have the real thing posted in an ad, no matter what the reason.

  • Yeah it's almost crazy how different she looks touched up.  It reminds me of those Beyonce ads where she looked almost white after airbrushing.

  • When I read the thread topic, I was convinced this was going to be about her being dead.

  • I like it, and it definitely takes some balls.

  • I'm pleasantly surprised in both jessica and britney.

  • Jamie Lee Curtis did this awhile back:

I don't have the "after" picture, but I recall she was in a gown, support-bra'd-and-spanxed, heavily made-up, and possibly air-brushed, too.  She wanted to show how she *really* looks without the glamourworks.

My sister and I used to have a bet going of when she'd commit suicide or overdose.

We still have one going for Lindsay Lohan.

  • The thing for me is, she looks awesome even without being edited.  I'd aim to have that body over the miniscule airbrushed one, it looks healthier.
  • ....but she's a celebrity...aren't they supposed to have some unattainable, unrealistic body?

    *snort*

I think she looks better in the first pic. The second one makes her legs look all plastic and creepy, not to mention the bleached out Michael Jackson treatment they got.

I think her body looks great, she IS quite fit looking just not super incredibly skinny like they probably want. Most of the lower half of the body could have looked better, untouched, if there was better lighting.
  • I would get rid of the bruises but other than that she looks great!
  • hehe.  Methy.

I think it's cool.  But I'm a little skeptical that it was her idea.

  • i think it's awesome when celebs do this.

(of course, i'm ok with them removing the camel toe.)
  • Yeah that is pretty major camel toe and needs to be airbrushed along with the bruises.

And while Candie's is at it, they should have her wear shoes that fit.  My hugest pet peeve is when girls have an inch of shoe showing behind their heel.  Your heel should come to the edge!  Her shoes look way too big.

[QUOTE]I think Dani has it right. When female celebrities do photo shoots without make-up or retouching, they get a ton of praise for showing how "real" women look. And when they get called out for re-touching (like Demi Moore in W a couple of months ago) they look like they are trying to be fake. I don't think it's going to be a major change though. Retouching is here to stay.

    I agree... Unfortunately.

I'm fine with airbrushing to take out my zits, but leave my freckles and the shape of my body alone please!
  • I think this is awesome!  What a great way to show younger girls that role models are not "perfect"
