"Mrs. His First Name & Last Name" - have to address that way?

It's just one of those things that irks the heck out of me.  You take the guy's last name, but you don't take his first name too.  So I hate writing Mr. & Mrs. "His 1st Name" "Last Name".  I want to write Mrs. Her Name & Mr. His Name Last Name.

Ex. Mrs. Jane & Mr. John Smith as opposed to Mr. & Mrs. John Smith

But do some people find that way insulting?  I'm thinking maybe the older generation expects to be called by his first name and will be bothered that I included both first names?

I am sending out invites soon and can't seem to decide which way to go to cause the lease offense/annoyance.  Which way is the better way to address the invites?
