"Where are you registered?"

I just had my first "Where are you registered?" question. The thing that got me was the follow up, "Is there anything special you guys want?" It was a perfectly reasonable question but I panicked a little. I've been reading so many post about registering, and gifts, and etiquette, I didn't want to say the wrong thing. So I just told her where we were registered and then asked about her family. I feel like I should have answered, not ignored the second question, but I couldn't think fast enough of the right thing to say. "We are just really looking forward to seeing everyone!" sounds so phony because I just told her we registered. Too late now but what would you have said?

ETA: She just asked if there was anything I wanted her to "push the family" to get. So thoughtful and so awkward lol

  • When this happens I usually throw out 2 or 3 items in very different price points.  That way it's not an awkward situation where they realize that what you really want (that $300 bedding set) is out of their price range, KWIM?

  • So it would have been ok to say, "We really love the plateware we picked?" It's not fine china so each piece isn't very expensive by itself.

<div>If it has pieces in multiple price points I think it's fine.  We are finding that a lot of our low priced items are not being purchased (yet - still lots of time), and these are actually some of the items we really want and will buy on our own if people don't get them for us.    Some people will be comfortable with a higher price point, and others won't, and that's why I throw out several different things that are in a range.</div>
