Westin Governor Morris - reviews??

Hi everyone! I just got engaged over xmas and started looking around for venues this weekend.  My fiance and I really like the westin in morristown the best so far - and they were able to come down in price somewhat from an original quoted price of $125.  We are looking to get married in March 2013.  I am originally from NY so I guess I actually have two questions.  1- has anyone been to a wedding here, how was the food (we would have a buffet).  2- could i find somewhere along the same level as the westin for cheaper, or is this a pretty good deal?  Thanks in adv for your help :)

Re: Westin Governor Morris - reviews??

  • I can't speak to price, but I was once a guest at a wedding there.  I thought the food and service were wonderful.  My friend had her ceremony here as well and I thought that room looked very drab and dark; like it was just a big meeting room with chairs and an arch.  But everything else was beautiful.
  • Thanks!  Yes, I was not in love with the ceremony room it did look very dark but everything else seemed nice.
  • I would recommend before you decide just look down the road at Hamilton Park Hotel as well. We had our reception there and it was amazing. The Westin Governor Morris is very nice as well, but in my opinion the food and service at Hamilton is better and I think Westin has 2 events at a time, where as Hamilton you are the only wedding per day. They are very similar in price, at least when I looked, but I feel you get more for your money at Hamilton Park. But either way I think both venues are great and having a wedding at a hotel was the best decision in my opinion. You can have a great after party, breakfast the next day, etc etc its so fun!
  • Congrats on your engagement!

MH and I were married at the Westin in Nov 2010 and we loved it. We can't speak to the food though since we had an Indian caterer, but the staff and service were fantastic.

I don't think that they have two events at the same time, at least we weren't under the impression that could be the case. We had our ceremony in the room towards the back (I can't remember the name) and yes, it does look like a meeting room, but our decorator did a good job with trying to make it more attractive. The reception was in the Governer's Ballroom and the cocktail hour outside of that ballroom.

In all, we were very pleased with the spaces and the service leading up to the wedding day and on the day itself.
