Reception Lighting Question

Is anyone using any special lighting at their reception such as wall washes, uplighting, etc.?  If so, who are you using and how much should I budget for?  Thanks!

We did! We used Dave Watson from Get Lit. I don't have his info right here, but he was recommended by our venue and did a wonderful job. It made our venue look amazing. I think we spent around $1500.

everybody has priorities on where to spend their money but for me this was not one of them. very few people will remember the look of the venue when you ask them in a year. i used my venue as it was and put that money into other things that would get me more bang for the buck such as an iced lit martini bar. unless you are spending lots of money, most lighting companies really do an amateurish job.

We didn't do a whole specialty lighting scheme, but we did rent a few lights for our buffet area. (Our venue had REALLY bad overhead lighting, and the lights made a big difference. If we hadn't rented them the venue would have tried to use the existing fluorescent lighting during the reception. I thought about doing colored uplights, etc., all over the venue but in the end decided that wasn't worth it.) We rented them from a place called Creative Visions near Brier Creek in Raleigh. I think four stands with 3-4 small lights on each cost about $100 total. This was for our own setup. They do custom lighting jobs, too, for more $. I found them to be pretty helpful even though our little lighting rental was MUCH smaller than the concerts/conventions/etc. that they seem to specialize in.
