Anyone wait a month or more to go on honeymoon?

Good morning, ladies!  Has anyone waited a month or more after their wedding to go on a honeymoon?  I'm a teacher, and I'm pretty sure the district would frown upon my taking a week long vacation during the school year.  I'm undecided on date and location, and my mother's suggesting a May wedding.  I'd then have to wait until the school year is over to take a honeymoon.  FI's fine with it either way.  Has anyone done this?  Did it still feel like a honeymoon?

I got married on May 1 and still haven't booked. Although, we are PLANNING on going next month for our 10 year.

Lots of people do this. I wouldn't hesitate to do it.  We're not waiting a month, but we're waiting a week.  If I was you I would just wait the month, it'll still be as special a month later!

A lot of people wait for their honeymoons. We almost had to, for financial reasons, but then I won the flight so we were able to go immediately after the wedding. Honestly, after the wedding, you're likely going to want SOME time off. I don't know that I could've gone straight back to work even if we couldn't travel. That would have really sucked. You could do a June or July wedding since you're not tied to anything. It's not any more expensive than May, and the weather can be great.

We got married in March and will not go on our honeymoon till November.  MH is a teacher so this works out better for us.

yes!  we were married this past october and planned our hm to costra rica.  we waited until the rainy season was over and went in january.  it was actually really nice to have something to look forward to after the wedding...it kind of extended it.  after our wedding though, we did go to florida for a week.  maybe go away for a few days just to relax.

Thanks everyone!  For some reason I didn't know it was such a common thing to do.  I like the idea of the separation.  That way it's two big things to look forward to at two different times. :)  Now all I need to do is choose between the venue FI likes and the one I like and book a date. Of course we can't agree on this.  lol

I went to DC for three days after my wedding just to have something to do. I went on my honeymoon almost five months later.' I have to say, it didn't exactly feel like a honeymoon. It was a great trip and all, but I think it lacked the whole "We're newlyweds" feel to it. We've also lived together for almost 4 years and have gone on lots of vacations together, so that might have something to do with the feeling as well.

I am  a teacher and getting married in Feb. I already cleared it with my principal to take a week off after the wedding for the honeymoon. Would it hurt to ask if you can do the same? I know a lot of teachers who do it. One friend did wait for his honeymoon. However he wishes he did it right after. Take some days off after to relax

We went away for a long weekend to the finger lakes 2 weeks after our wedding, and are going on our big honeymoon to South Africa on August 28, so 3 months after our wedding. We waited because of weather in SA (after our wedding was winter there, we are waiting until it warms up a bit).  But, honestly, I am so glad that we did.  I would have felt extra rushed the week before the wedding to have to pack to go away on a big trip along with the last minute wedding stuff.  And it gives us something else to look forward to after the wedding buzz has calmed down.

We're probably doing the same thing. FI's also a teacher, and a long vacation in April wouldn't really work for us. We'll probably go somewhere fairly local for a long weekend (Niagara Falls, Cape Cod, maybe fly to Chicago or even San Francisco), then do something bigger during the summer. My family's planning an Ireland vacation next summer, so we'll most likely treat that as a bigger honeymoon and hopefully tack on some time in Italy the week before/after that trip.

We're going to Cape May for a couple days right after the wedding in September, and we were going to wait til January to go on our Costa Rica HM.  But we recently made the decision to hold off on our HM for now until we get a house, that $5k or so we were going to spend would be much better spent towards a down payment.  We're planning on going on our HM for our one-year anniversary...I hope it actually works out that we can go.

I don't think it's a big deal to take it at another time that works for you. But I'm a teacher and planned my wedding for April and took 4 personal days after my wedding then we had off Good Friday and SPring Break.. so it worked out that we had about 2 weeks off. So we took it then. Are you tenure? I requested the days and they didn't give me a hard time.... he said "they're your personal days.... use them how you want"

Thanks for the advice. :)  I am tenure but I don't think that my principal would be ok with me taking off during the year.  I'm sure I could get away with 2 personal days...but anything more than that they might dock me.  They're a little silly where I am.  I agree, they're my days and I should use them however I want...it's just that I don't think my boss agrees.  FIs water heater broke last year and he fell very hard on his way to shut off the valve.  I called in at 5:30 AM to take the day off so I could clean up (I live with him), and they gave me a ridiculously hard time bc it was the Monday after a 3 day weekend.  ?  They wanted a doctor's note.  I said, "How bout a plumber's note?"  Irritating.

I'm getting married next October and won't go on a honeymoon until a few months later. Maybe even the following year. My fiance is in law school and will be taking the bar exam prep. It's something he can't miss so as soon as he's done with the bar exam we are off on our honeymoon. I feel like he will be much more relaxed after he's finished with everything.

Yeah if you know they will be tough on you then just hold off and go in the summer when you have off... or Christmas break. Like people said, you can always just make a long weekend of it and go to a Bed and Breakfast somewhere local... or stay in the city .... .just to get away for a night or two...

Lots of people do this, and seem to be cool with it.  I went within 24 hours - was EXTREMELY hectic.  However, I did love whisking away to the other side of the world to celebrate right away and couldn't have imagined waiting.  I guess it just depends on ther person.

We got married on MDW and went on a mini-moon to AC and did some day trips.  We are going to WDW in Sept for our HM/my birthday.  It's really nice to have this to look forward to.   It's like it's not over--the celebration continues.  Lisa Beth

my brother did this, his wife doesnt get vacation days, she is off when the office is closed which is for a week twice a year, so they had to wait like 4 months.  But they found out on their honeymoon that they were pregnant with my little angel on their HM...

We're getting married in Oct and taking our honeymoon in March.  We just had a baby and she'll only be 5 months at the wedding so we didn't want to leave her just yet.
