NJ girl getting married in NY...(license q)

...where should we apply for the marriage license? We live in Hudson Co., and we're getting married in the Bronx. Still over 6 months away, but in case we need to do some special maneuvers, I'd like to know now.Kicker - FI hasn't (and prob won't) change his driver's license to NJ (still, legally, resides in NY). Does this make a difference? And if no one knows, I'll try calling the municipal numbers. Eeeek, I hope someone knows. :-)TIA.

You need to check New York law. You would only apply for a marriage license in New Jersey if you were marrying in New Jersey (it doesn't matter that you live here). You're correct that your best bet is calling someone.

I'm pretty sure the marriage license is for the county you are getting married at.  So, I would call the Bronx offices and ask, just to be sure.  Just be sure you tell them neither of you are residents of that county (is it Kings county?)

i got married in NY, i don't think that it matters which office you go to, as long as it's in the state of ny (not like NJ), but just be careful of the 60 requirement... i believe the window for application is longer in NJ than it is in NY

Actually you may need to get the license from your FI's county since he is still registered in NY.

Thanks all, for the information. And Bronx is New York City, so it all goes through the City Clerk for NYC. And yep, valid for 60 days (after a 24 hr waiting period) and we don't both have to be residents, just have proper government IDs.Woo hoo!

I have friends who live in New Jersey and got married in New York. But they did all the paperwork in New Jersey. Something about signing the certificate in New Jersey rather than New York. I don't know the details though. But they said NY marriage laws are much more complicated. (And their wedding was upstate. I know it's even more complicated in New York City.)
