I think I'm gonna theme it...

Morning ladies! While helping plan another party with a retro vibe, I got inspired. So if I go mia for a bit it's b/c I'm over at the vintage theme board on the Knot. I wasn't originally into themey things, but (this will explain my knot name) I'm wearing my late grandmother's Christian Dior gown...if not all night, then at least for the ceremony. Means so much to me b/c she passed five years before I was born and my grandfather passed a few months ago. I really wish I could have met her and wish he could have been with me next year to see me get married...so I think wearing the dress will be a nice way to honor them. They were married in 1948. My reception venue is not very modern at all...so it'll take well to some vintage ideas. If anyone has done or seen anything like this and can offer any advice, I'm all ears! :)

Sounds really cool--your wedding will mean so much more to you since there is significant meaning behind it. As for ideas, you should check out blogs like Style Me Pretty (you can find other great blogs from hers) for good ideas on vintage glam so that your wedding looks classy and not like a dress-up party. Do you have any pictures of the dress?

I don't think retro or vintage is themey in a "mickey and minney mouse" sort of way - I love retro /vintatge/ art deco style stuff.  It's all in the details.  i agree with pp about style me pretty - I check it every day, vintage bride - Just do a search.  would love to see pics of your grandmothers dress- :)

Hi! Thanks, everyone! Will def check out Style Me Pretty. :) I tried a few times to post pics, but I'm having trouble. I have pics on photobucket...I'm not sure how to get them in here. When I tried to copy/paste the image code or html link and then posted here, nothing happened. Wait, I know...I'll put one of the pics in my siggy. Hopefully it doesn't come out huge!

wow, how awesome that you can wear your grandmother's dress. A Dior girl back in 1948 - I love it! The picture looks great in your siggy. You look alot like her actually (at least in the two pics in your siggy). Do you have any other pics that show her in full length? or with it on you? I'd love to see more!  In photobucket just click on the picture to open it up. Then right click, click copy, come here and right click and paste in the Message box. Tada!

Gorgeous!  What a beauty (your gram and the dress).  How nice to have something so meaningful and so lovely!

L-O-V-E that dress OMG!!!! I would wear it the whole time for sure - that's amazing to be able to wear something from over 50 years ago and it is still gorgeous - is it white or ivory/cream? Do the flowers have color? I did a bit of the vintage/old hollywood glam "theme" at my wedding with vintage glassware for centerpieces and incorporated a lot of candles -- we did a lot of gold and I wore a birdcage veil with a very lacey dress for the look, I mean I didn't deck out in the theme but hinted it and loved it...I think its a fantastic idea :)

Hi Chelsea! Thank you for the tutorial...but I'm so not tech savvy that I still can't do it! When I copy it and come here to paste it the word paste isn't available. Ughhh I suck at this!

Thank you! Justkris...I saw your vintage ideas in your album from the link you posted previously. What a little lurker I am, huh? lol Beautiful pics and...Loveeee your shoes. I might have to be a big copycat and get some blue shoes for dress 2. Maybe peep toe platform pumps. The dress isn't in the best condition, but I am confident it can be restored. It's all tulle with a satin (I'm about to make up a word for this I think) underlay? The waistband is pale green silk and the flowers are pink, yellow, and blue silk. The dress itself I believe is a creamy white...but it's pretty dingy right now, as it wasn't preserved properly, so I can't be sure. Because of it's importance, it's weight, and it's frailty, I think I'd be more comfortable wearing it for the pictures in the am, ceremony, pictures with the wp and future hubby, and cocktail hour. I'm a bit of a maniac on the dance floor. I don't know how I'd feel about wearing my grandmother's dress and booty shaking simultaneously. lol I think I'd be better off in a knee length, straight cut (maybe a Nicole miller dress...but not an actual bridal gown) dress with some hot blue shoes...oooo and maybe a blue birdcage veil for the reception. Now I need me some sexy cigar girls. Any knottie volunteers? ;)

I think that's fantastic. I LOVE that you're wearing such a great, vintage dress.I'm doing some vintage touches as well, though most of them are not worked out yet. Nothing over-the-top, just a few touches.

Hi! Thank you for the positivity! :) I'm very excited! I was serious about the cigar girls...btw. lol Ok, so I apologize for being totally clueless about posting pics other than having them in my siggy. I set up a photobucket account where I'm going to upload wedding related inspiration pics etc. and I just uploaded 3 pics of my grandparents into that album. You're all welcome to check it out! http://s940.photobucket.com/albums/ad249/DiorandKisses/ I made it public...but if for some reason it asks for a pw, it's vintage. :)
