Any teachers?

With how terrible the economy is at the moment I was laid off a little bit ago :-(  Its just awful & me & the FI are still trying to save in hopes of still being able to have our wedding as planned.  I'm a teacher & my question to you ladies is if any of you know of any teaching jobs?  One of my friends has a connection through her master teacher in Plainfield so she's going to try for me, so wondering if any of you has any connections?  If you know any school principals, district superintendents, school directors of special services...etc.  I have my masters in teaching Special Education, I'm certified in Elementary P-3 & K-5 & Special Education (Teacher of Students with Disabilities).  TIA  Just thought I'd try & do a little networking any way I can!!

And figure I should add, I'd basically work anywhere within about an hour from Keyport, NJ.  So anywhere in Monmouth County, Ocean, Union, Somerset, Middlesex..  Pretty sure all of those are at least within an hour or so.

I currently work at the Children's Center of Monmouth County which is a special ed school in Neptune. Im not sure if theyre hiring now, but you can always check it out. Also, in Eatontown is School for the Children which is also a special ed school.

I am sorry to hear!! Because of the economy most teachers that were planning on retiring are staying longer because they can't simply afford to go. Keep checking districts websites to see of any openings. One good thing for you is that you do not have a generic K-5 Elementary only but also have your special ed certification. If anything have you tried looking at private Pre K schools? That is what I did when I first graduated but later ended up finding something in my district.

Thanks!  I feel like I'm trying everything, but I'm only one person & I only have so many resources so thank you so much for posting names of schools & all that.  I go on NJhire every single day plus I'll go on the NJ board of ed's site to go on the directory which takes you to each individual district's site.  I've done a ton of walk ins to drop off my resume plus applying online & mailing in.  I've had a few interviews lately but nobody has said the magic words "you're hired!" yet.  I will look into those schools you mentioned so far.  I have looked into some private preschools so far.

what is your email?  not a teaching job, but I work for an educational publisher who is always looking for writers and editors.  I don't pick WHO we use, but I can have you fill out our candidate form and pass your resume along.  It is freelance work and I can't guarantee anything but worth a shot to at least have something to hold you over between jobs.

You should delete your resume link from here right away.  Just because you crossed out your address there is still A LOT of personal info someone can take.  You never know who is lurking and what they are capable of doing.

Info has been emailed...make sure it doesn't end up in your spam since it has an attachment.  Not a virus I promise! just a Word doc.!

I suggest applying for special ed positions.  Elementary positions have hundreds upon hundreds of teachers applying for 1 position.  Your more likely to get hired for special ed especially if you apply for a middle or high school position.  Once you get hired you can always request to be switched to elementary the following year. Good luck

You'll have better luck with special ed. Regular el ed jobs are extremely hard to come by. I've been looking for 4 years.

I work for the Morris-Union Jointure Commission. It's a school for autistic kids ages 3-21. Depending on which school they hire you in will determine which age group you'll be working with. We have a school in Union, one in New Providence, and one in Warren. The website is mujc.org. I know they're always looking for assistants, not sure about teachers.

im a teacher and i just got a job... i was subbing for 2 years in 2 different districts and you just have to make connections with teachers and principals. i even had principals observe me. to find jobs, i went on school district webstites instead of njhire. there's also njschooljobs.com which is better. but just find towns in those counties (middletown, keyport, keansburg, ocean township, matawan) and google like middletown board of ed. i found alot more jobs on district websites than the other ones. good luck though! you def have an advantage that you have spec ed and your masters

You should try Paterson. I know they have a special ed opening at School #29. There is a posting on the websitewww.paterson.k12.nj.us. I work there and live in Matawan. The commute is 45-50 minutes but I leave at 6:15. It's obviously a city area, but I really enjoy working there. Good Luck!

Thanks so much ladies!!  And yes I agree njhire is certainly not the best, I've found way more jobs going on individual district websites too.  I've had a few interviews so far, but I'm still a new teacher so sometimes I think they're looking for more experience.  I also went to Kean & worked on my interviewing skills, so we'll see!!
