Verizon question

My contract is up...can I get a new phone and renew for a year or does it have to be two years?

i think you can get a new phone at any time, you just don't get the special rebate/discount for signing for with a two year contract.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. What I mean is...to renew my contract and get a new phone, can I just get a one year contract? For new customers, they show different pricing on their Web site for phones with a 1-yr contract vs. a 2-yr contract. But if you look under existing customers it just lists prices with 2-yr contracts. Does that make more sense?

Makes sense.  In order to get the deal on the new phone you have to sign up for the 2 year agreement.  Otherwise you pay out of pocket for whatever phone you want.

I believe they are 2 yrs now....used to be able to do 1 yr and get a reduce rebate toward a new phone.

Isn't it a lesser discount on the phone if you don't do one year? They don't list it on the website. I used to have verizon and I think if you did one year verses two you had to pay more out of pocket.

Thanks guys. I was afraid of that! It makes no sense...so basically if I cancel my contract now and sign up as a new customer I can do one year, otherwise they force you into two.

your new phone will be cheaper if you get the 2 year, the $50 off I think is every year.  They are two seperate things.

I know. I'd rather pay a little more for the phone than be tied up for another 2 years is my point.

Tied up? You plan on going to another carrier or just don't want the same phone for two yes?

I am thinking of switching to another carrier, but want to keep Verizon for another year to see if they end up getting a version of the iphone. I have a really old plan that they don't sell anymore and we get a discount with Verizon, so I don't really want to switch to AT&T, but I'm not crazy about BBs.

Rumors are an iPhone "light" with half the features of an iphone.......and it won't be 3G.  Pricing should be about 75-100 bucks.
