scared of Helicopter tours now?

I am!!!  Wanted to do one in Hawaii on the honeymoon, but terrified now after that NYC crash! Our travel agent also advised against it.  Really?  Thoughts?

Friends of ours did it in Hawaii and they crashed into the ocean. You can take a boat tour instead

I think it would be like saying you're afraid of flying considering the amount of helicopters that fly everyday with no problem.  I went on a helicopter on our way back to the airport and it was sooo scary but an awesome experience.  I you will be fine.

Yeah, but there are all sorts of things we do every day that are dangerous... there was that awful car crash on the Taconic a week or two ago.  You still drive, right?  There are train crashes and boat crashes etc.

I heard the helicopter rides can be really nauseating, especially if you're prone to motion sickness--we're not going.

I did a helicopter tour over NYC a few years ago for a work-related thing (from the same company that was affected by the recent accident). I really enjoyed it. But like a PP said, it's a matter of numbers. And airline accidents happen very infrequently, which is why it's such big news when it DOES happen.

I am extremely prone to motion sickness and I was fine.  I even feel buildings moving if they are tall enough.I did take a zanex for nerves ;)

I wouldn't change my plans because of a recent crash.

ditto PP... that is like saying you wont drive again because of an auto-accident you saw.  your travel agent is silly to advise that.

We did a tour in Maui and I loved it.  I was terrified beforehand  but the take off and landing and flights were so smooth, the only thing I wasn't happy with was the one hard bank (I'm a chicken but everyone else loved it).   Just go with a good company - our guy was always on the lookout for other planes/helicopters and listening to the tower all the time.Funny enough - I got more sick (left a gift in the ocean) on our snorkeling trip than I did on the helicopter.
