New Years Eve in Raleigh

Hey girls,

DH and myself have no clue about the nightlife in Raleigh, and we have some friends coming into town this Thursday, and we were wondering if anyone had any ideas on somewhere/something to do for New Year's Eve?  We are not a fan of dance clubs... we would just like to find a bar/restaurant where we can drink/eat and maybe watch a live band.  I also overheard a friend talking about a comedy club?   I have been to see the acorn drop, and I really don't want to do that again this year.

Thanks for your help :)

Goodnight's Comedy Club in Raleigh is so much fun.  They also have a restaurant upstairs and a bar under the club - so it would satisfy all of the criteria you have for the night :)

We don't do the loud bar thing either.  This year we are going to the hockey game because they have a celebration as well that night.  It's something different.

Other than that, Michael Deans is having a dinner/event at is a really nice place to go and do a package deal  http://www.rockytophospitality.com

Rum runners has a dueling piano show that is supposed to be a lot of fun. I've never been myself though. Tir na Nog is a really fun Irish bar and they will have a live band, it is loud though. There are quite a few bars in the Moore's square area so if you didn't like one you could just leave to try another. I think that's where we're going to hang out.

Bogart's and Red Room do specials on New Year's Eve - both would be a bit more of a dressed up crowd but I think it would be a lot of fun.

I would second the Michael Deans's idea.

Charlie Goodnight's is pretty fun too!

If you want something with no cover - the Oxford is an English pub and they are having a live band playing on New Year's Eve - it's bigger than a normal bar and so it shouldn't be as super loud as a bar could get.  I think they have some thing going on where you can make reservations for dinner there and kind of reserve a table for the night.  I haven't had dinner there but my parents have and said the food was pretty tasty!

If you google for any of these places you should be able to see the link to what they're doing for new years on their main page.  HTH!
