prices for CP and flowers

ive been meeting with florists and both have given me  a price quote that is higher than what i wanted.  i will work with the one that i pick to make it more affordable.what would you say is the avg price for a centerpiece.  i was quoted at 160 per table by one place. the other florist i met with  didnt really break down what cost what  this is a high CP on a base with orchids, rocks, and lights inside of it. plus votives that are painted purple, and rose petals. the flowers are hydrangeias, anemone, delphinium, lisianthus, stock, and dendrobium orchids. they may be a few more..is this too high? my overall quote was for 4000. im doing 2 altar pieces, one for my house, my bouquet, 6 bms, 3 flower girls, boutineres, headtable, and escort table. what do flowers cost now a days and why so much!

wow, that is crazy, we arent doing altar pieces, or anything for our house, just bouquets, and boutineres, and a non floral CP, we are budgeting like $500 for flowers.  But we really dont like flowers so that is just us, we both have allergies to flowers

What area are you in & in what month are you getting married (sorry if I missed that)? I can only say always get the florist to break down what it costs & also, orchids are of course a more pricey flower usually) so you MAY pare down the cost by submerging another similarly colored flower which is less $ per stem/bunch. $160 may be good if they're really full, lush, exactly what you want. I love the flower TYPE choices but I"d continue to look for suggestions/look around.

Do you have a pic of the CP you are going for? 160 is a lot, so I am guess you want the high CP's? Not sure thou...I had high CP's, but my florist worked with me. She was a friend of my mom's and let me buy my own vases and details for them. (Lights, rocks, rose petals, votive candles, Etc) I paid 95 per CP. Pic in my pro pics link below...

I agree with Jaytee. 160 is actually on the much lower end of my quotes per tall CP. It all depends on what you want and the look you are going for. Sure you can probably negotiate the flowers/style/fullness and get a much more fitting quote.

Wow....$160 for a cp sounds high to me, but obviously it depends on design. Mine is just a 12" vase with 2 orchids submerged in water with a floating candle. It will cost me $20 per table. Overall, I'm paying roughly $1400 for flowers: $125 $125 bridal bouquet $250 $50 for each bridesmaid bouquet (I have 5) $0 Free groom's boutonniere $72 $6 for each bout (groomsmen, fathers, brother, ushers) $40 $20 for each corsage for the mothers $30 $10 for each other corsages (SILs and Grandma) $250 $125 for each alta arrangement $400 $20 for each centerpiece $75 for extra orchids to put on the cake HTH!

Flowers can be pricey but I would not book until you get a break down on price. Also remember the delivery and set up fee for centerpeices may Jack it up but you can save that if you DIY. I'm doing roses, callas, orchids, stephonotis, stock, and orchids and like brad said with out CPs it's around 500-700. Don't be afraid to tell them their price is too high. They can then adjust and do different things to get the price where you want it. IMO I wouldn't pay 160 per CP. That's crazy

I would definitely get a breakdown by piece.  Depending on how big these centerpieces are, it may be perfectly reasonable.  You're getting a lot of stuff.  Also, I've been in a few weddings where my bridesmaid bouquet and the bride's bouquet started wilting even before the ceremony began.  Because of that, I really feel there's something to be said for paying a bit more for a florist who you trust to capture your vision and whose quality and freshness you trust.(Also, don't ever listen to Brad re: budgets-- he thinks everything is an obscene ripoff)

Agree with everyone else that it really depends on what you're getting but $4,000 for everything that you listed doesn't sound rediculously high to me. Plus your CPs sound like they have a lot going on in them so maybe simplifying them would reduce the cost.

Did you ask your florist if those are in season?  Orchids are always going to be expensive and hydrangeas if out of season are going to be very pricey.  Is your whole centerpiece just orchids - if so how many?A couple of ways to bring it down really easily with noone noticing:For your head table just put the bm bouquets on it.  That's what we did and I think it looked great, especially since they would have just ended up in a room.  For the escort table are you doing rose petals or actual table display?  Rose petals or more than enough.Yes, do not listen to Brad re: budget.

thanks for your feedback. im getting married next May at in Hawthorne.   He said that the CP would be full and would have rose petals at the bottom.  i could probably take out the stones and use clear votives rather than the purple ones he has to paint. he is also charging me 200 bucks  for the escort table for these two slender bases with an orchid in them that will be lit, with petals on the bottom.  that i think i will change because once they pick up their escort card, no one sees it.im meeting with two more today.. i dont know if i just happened to pick pricer florists or its my taste! haha

You could also buy purple votives or clear ones.  I got my clear ones at AC Moore and they were very cheap with the 40% coupon.Definitely forget the escort table, waste of money.  Also, he says it will be full but I would ask for a sample before deciding to go with him - your idea of full and his could be the same or could be very different.

I would ask the florist about buying things yourself.  I'm sure it would be fine-- but there were a few things that we proposed buying ourselves and as it turned out the florist was able to get them for less (or we could rent them through her for less).  It all depends.  Also ask your venue-- ours provided votives so the florist didn't need to.

Definitely ask if you can buy some of the details yourself. That's what I did... Vases, crystals, lights, etc.

i met with two others today. one totallly didnt like and the other florist (girl)  gave me the same price as this guy that gives all the bells and whistles, but less stuff. both are 3500 but with tax and delivery the guy comes to 4000   for istance the girl charges 15 for a pew bow, that is just satin.  the guy charges the same but does satin and flowersthe girl charges 160 for a CP but doesnt do plum votives and no petals at the base. he doesshe is charging me 60 for a pomander, he is charging me 35.  so thats the idea..when its all said and done with comparision is that the guy and this girl are prety much the same price and he gives more  BUT she doesnt charge tax and delivery..he does.   do you think he would be willing to work with no delivery and tax if i do cash, so he gets the job.  the florists i met with havent been charging delivery and tax.  his is 500 for that.. which is why it comes to 4000. and how do i ask this??if not, i have to take out some things
