Ceremony/Cocktail hour musicians

Hey ladies!!  I'm a Staten Island bride and have recently been researching musicians for my wedding next fall.  I have been getting CRAZY quotes, so I was hoping you girls would have some recommendations.  I contacted a few musicians from Manhattan and the "going rate" is $500 a musician for two hours, so for a trio its $1500...which is bananas!!!If you know of any budget prices musicians, please recommend them :)TIALiz

sorry but sounds like the going rate in the tri-state area.  what instruments are you looking for?

Have you tried your local colleges? I went to school for music and a lot of the students there did gigs like that over the weekend. I can't imagine it would be as much since they aren't considered professionals yet but students. At the same time the quality is good. I love your shoes and monogram! Very cute!

Vanessa - thank you!!  I just contacted Marie.  I'm actually looking for a string trio for the ceremony and pianist for the cocktailhour...so I'm crossing my fingers :)I contacted Julliard about hiring students, and I'm thinking about posting at Wagner College on Staten Island.  I'm just a little iffy about it...Jamie - thanks!!  The shoes are Kate Spade, which is crazy expensive.  I'm hoping to get them on sale lol

We're using an acoustic guitarist/singer:WWW.TOMPARELLA.NETHe's 400 for ceremony and cocktail hr.  300 if just for ceremony

We used Amaryllis Ensemble. We had a cellist and a violinist. They played for 30 min prior to our ceremony, and then played our recessional (about 45 min-an hour total). We payed $375. They charged more, but offered 3 musicians. You may be able to get lower prices if you negotiate on the number of musicians
