I like anthology books, so that you get a bunch of stories without having 50 books to lug around and store:Dr. Seuss: http://www.amazon.com/Your-Favorite-Seuss-Bakers-Dozen/dp/0375810617/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251945588&sr=8-1***Little Critter: http://www.amazon.com/Little-Critter-Collection-Mercer-Mayer/dp/0375832556/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251945616&sr=1-1***Little Golden Books: http://www.amazon.com/65-Years-Little-Golden-Books/dp/037584225X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251945671&sr=1-1***Curious George: http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Adventures-Curious-George/dp/0618164413/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251945728&sr=1-1***Some other classics ... Blueberries for Sal, Harry the Dirty Dog, Make Way for Ducklings, Where the Wild Things Are, The Giving Tree, The Polar Express, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Corduroy, Goodnight Moon, Caps for Sale, Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See?

most of the books mentioned are way to common to give. i have a son (20 months old) and he has received multiple copies of most of the books already mentioned. i would recommend: ten in the bed by penny dalecheerios play book by lee wadebooks by jamie lee curtis ("big words" and "is there really a human race?" are my two favorites)my absolute favorite book is probably to controversial for your ring bearer is "and tango makes three" by justin richardson

If you give a mouse a cookie is great... theres others in that series too: if you give a pig a pancake & if you give a moose a muffin ... there might be one more.I always like to recommend Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Where the Wild Things Are, and We're Going on a Bear Hunt.

All of the above are great suggestions.  Young children love the "If You Give ...moose, pig and mouse books, "The Monster at the End of the Book", all Eric Carle books, "We're Going on a Bear Hunt", and a ton more.  Just go to B&N and they'll be very helpful.Lisa Beth

Omgoodness, I love, love, LOVE children's books (working in Preschool they come in handy lol) I have a bunch of recommendations!Skippyjon Jones by Judy Schachner - one of my all-time favorites about a troublesome little kitten with a big imagination! The Wheels on the Racecar by Alex Zane and James Warhola - its a cute new version of the wheels on the bus, a classic!Where the Wild Things Are or anything by Maurice Sendak really he's just genius!Kitten's First Full Moon by Kevin Henkes - all of his stories are truly awesome but this is more on the 2 year old level, lots of beautiful pictures and a simple and sweet storyline about a kitten who confuses the moon with a bowl of milk! This book is also a Caldecott award winner and those are always a good choice.Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems - he was a writer for sesame street so his books are all excellent, this one is very cute and funny, funky photo/drawing mixed illustrations.Absolutely anything Eric Carle (as afore mentioned) Lol my list goes on! Honestly if you'd like anymore suggestions please feel free to email me at thisgyrlismeg@aol.com I loveeeee talking about kid lit!

when my sister was pregnant with her first, 5 years ago...i went crazy trying to find there's a monster at the end of this book...it was one of my faves when i was a kid....and i couldn't find it anywhere! they didn't have it at any book stores, the lady at borders looked at me like i had 12 heads...i had to order it from amazon....and even then it was hard to find the right copy of it...now its everywhere!i love that book!i don't know about your 2yr old, but my nephew has been obsessed with dinosaurs for a few years...and loved the book how do dinosaurs clean their room i think there might be more "how do dinosaurs..." books besides that one (like, say good night, go to shool, play with their friends, etc).  i've only read the one...its a good book

Ditto the "If you give..." series. Strega Nona was always one of my favorites. Well, anything by Tomie diPaola, really.

ANYTHING by Mo Willems, but I agree Knuffle Bunny is the best. But I also love Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus (or any of the Pigeon books)The Monster at the End of this Book is like one of my fave all-time books, and you know where I find it? In a little wire rack in the A&P. I have my own personal copy ;-)

I'm glad everyone else has such fond memories of the The Monster book.  I used to read it as Grover and Elmo (Ms. Lisa Beth's best version)and the kids loved it.  I never had it as a child, but I'm a lil older than most of you.

is elmo in the book now?  is that why its easier to find now? or is it still the original version with just grover?  that could be why it was hard for me to find 5 years ago... i know they put elmo in everything these days...i was trying to find these sesame street christmas songs that i have on vinyl and it looks like they re-did it on a cd but put elmo in almost every song....
