I will try to make this short. My nephew has Cystic Fibrosis which is a recessive genetic disease. Meaning that both parents must carry the gene in order to have the disease. If Fi and I were both carriers there really would be no way we would have children since there would be a 25% chance our child would have CF. Anyway, genetically I am very similar to my sister - who is a carrier of the gene - so I was petrified to do the genetic testing to see if I was a carrier. Last night after we got home from work Fi said to me "I have some good news -- I don't have the CF gene" Without telling me he went and had his testing done so I would not have to do it. The results came in yesterday and in his words that means 'we can start planning a family after the wedding" It may seem melodramatic but it really does bring tears to my eyes that he did that as a surprise for me.
