Does this sound right?

I've been checking out a bunch of reception sites this weekend with my Mom, sister, and fiance.  We found a place we liked; however, there's one thing that bothers me.  The room we're interested in is a large ballroom that's divided by a partition.  (We would take one side).  During our walk-through there was a loud party going on in the room on the other side of the partition.  We could hear the music pumping and feel the vibrations.I expressed my concern to the manager: what is there's another function going on during our wedding?  Won't we hear their music and won't it drown out our music?  She said that the music would cancel each other out and that it shouldn't be a problem.   Does this sound right to anyone? It doesn't sound right to me.  We liked everything else about the place, but I'm nervous to take the chance that they'd be another function in that room at the time of our wedding.  So far nothing is booked for that room on our date, which is less than 10 months away.On that note....  Does anyone know of anything that could be done to buffer out the sound?  Pink Panther insulation comes to mind.  LOL.

Yeah, well what about during the toasts? You wont have thumpin' music to cancel it out then... unless you want to hear black eyed peas latest dance hit in the background of your toasts, lol. The only thing I can think of to muffle the sound would be to have fabric hung as decor. However, now you are upping the budget and I'd say to just find some place else.

No, that doesn't sound right at all. First I don't think the music would cancel each other out unless you plan on playing music that's perfectly in-sync with one another. Second I can't think of anything that would completely absorb the noise from the other party. Lastly, I don't think I would take a chance that the room wont be booked by another party. Because it doesn't just have to be a wedding, it could get booked for a b-day party, corporate function, etc which aren't necessarily booked as far in advance as a wedding.

You would definitely hear the DJs through those walls. I would say keep looking if you still have some time.

I went to a wedding last year that had the same situation. During the FOB speech, the music from the party next door made it impossible to hear him. It really ruined the entire speech and we felt so bad for the bride and groom. My advice: look elsewhere!

I was at a wedding this past spring at a hall like you describe but there is an upstairs, downstairs and partitions. Anyway at one point the chandeleir (sp?) in the room we were in was vibrating because of the wedding upstairs. Most likely you will at some point hear/feel the other event going on.

I decided not to go with that reception site.  I would have been mortified if my guest left complaining about hearing music through a partition.  The day after we visited this hall, my mom and I visited another place...which we fell in love with!  My mom and I were talking to the owner of the new place and described the music issue with the other place.  He guessed the place!  I guess word travels in the industry.
