If you are doing this in an attempt to save money, you may want to rethink it. Renting a hall often requires you to provide your own tables, chairs, glassware, silverware, place settings, and linens on top of the catering costs. This adds up and it is often just as expensive, if not more expensive than, an all-inclusive type venue. If you want casual, meaning outside, you may also have to provide your own tent or some other sort of covering to protect from the elements.

Ridgewood Woman's Club, Glen Ridge Woman's Club, Montclair Art Museum, historic Loew's Jersey Theater (Jersey City)Like Kate said, though - be careful, because renting everything on your own can oftentimes be MORE expensive than using an all-inclusive hall. Some halls also offer a cocktail reception package or a dinner with stations, or you could do a brunch or a lunch instead of a sit-down dinner.

Not really summit area but Newark Museum. I dont know much about them but Merri Makers does alot of off site catering so they may have ideas for you if you are interested in them as your caterer. Also, it is somewhat traditional but the Park Ave Club is a non-profit organization with a dinner club. They are full service as far as food/tables/alcohol etc. but the place does have a different feel then a lot of other local venues. There are also some people who rent out their homes for events. This may require a wedding planner (or realtor?) but if you want something like that I know there are people in South Orange who do this and I would imagine there are people in Summit as well.
