Teaching Jobs in Monmouth or Ocean County!!!!!!!

I have been searching for almost a year and cannot even get an interview!!!!! I have k-5 and also special education!!! Anyone know of any schools that are hiring? Any one else having the same problem?

Hello....don't worry I'm in the same boat! I was in my district for 2 1/2 years and got laid off (of course so close to tenure). I've been sending resumes out since May. Not to make you feel bad, but I did not find a job until 3yrs after graduating. Keep looking, Special Ed is needed. Did you try Njhire.com or NJ.com?

OMG that stinks you were so close!! Yea I have tried both websites thanks!! You said you didnt find a job for three years after graduating... did you just continue sending resumes and going into schools? I never know how often I should send them... I feel like I am annoying lol

I subbed in the surrounding areas (I'm in Morris County) and basically sent out resumes to every town I thought was reasonable to drive to, with or without postings. Some districts say the keep your resume on file for 1-2 years, but I sent them out every year and to districts I really wanted to be in every time something popped up. Unfortunately in this field, it's who you know. I've experienced it about 3 times now, they went with so and so because they knew ___ or they are related to ____. It even worked out to my advantage one year when I was in one position and left at the end of the year only to be told there's another opening next year come back, no interview.

my sister in law has 2 masters one in special ed, and a friend of ours has her masters in special ed. My sister in law has been looking for a year, no luck, our friend just got a job but not full time, she is filling in for someone on maternity leave, so the bad news is you are not alone. No one wants to hire a teacher with masters cause they have to pay them more

Things will open up mid-year, a lot of maternity leaves, then the big round on hiring in May and June.  If you dont pick anything up your last chance is August.  Its very tough, dont give up, in the mean time get your foot in the door, sub, be an aide, etc.  Good luck!

I am a teacher as well.  I was super assertive when I graduated 2 years ago, and was lucky to get a job by August.  A couple of tips I learned:*Send to every district you would consider working in.  I grew up in the Monmouth/Ocean area, but most of my girlfriends & I got jobs in Middlesex (Seems to be more teaching jobs in that area)  So if you are close to Monroe, East Brunswick, South Brunswick, apply.  It's really not a bad commute from the Jackson/Freehold/Manalpan area. & they happen to pay a bit higher than some other neighboring districts.*ALSO, a great tip I receieved that I believe got me my job.  Send not only to districts, but to each individual school (Attention to the principal, by name) Often, principals are in charge of hiring and interviewing and it doesn't go through the central office.  So if you are applying to Monroe, send one to the district office, and one to each elementary principal, and the Special Services Supervisor can't hurt either!Hope that helps! Also, you need to check individual district websites for job openings. Most dont post on njhire or star ledger bc they simply do not have to.
