Poll: Renting Jewelry

Would you consider renting the jewelry (i.e $3,000 earring or a $5,000 bracelet) for your wedding day?

No. I'd be worried about losing it, like Cher said. Plus I'm not really into jewelry anyway.

I certainly would!  My only fear would be falling in love with bling that I can't afford... oh well, that's why you have pictures!

i obvi didn't have to "rent" jewelry, but my fil did allow me to pick out a few items to borrow for the special day. i wasn't paranoid as i thought i would be considering i had about 100k worth of jewels on.

If I wanted to wear fancy jewelry, sure.  I'm really not into diamonds and such, so investing in a fancy diamond necklace or bracelet wouldn't be worth it to me.  Renting would solve that problem.  (I'm allergic to all earrings though, regardless of metal and even clip-ons.  I think being able to wear pretty earrings would be a game changer for me)But as I said, I'm really not into jewelry.  All I wore at my wedding was my rings and I had a brooch on the sash on my dress.

I also borrowed from our jeweler and wasn't nervous at all! i thought i would be but figured celebs do it all the time why not!? even my 16 yr old sister wore some borrowed bling.i would not however, pay a few hundred to rent something worth a few thousand. i would find something for a few hundred to own.

I agree with Einat there too-- I would not spend a few hundred to rent something that costs a few thousand (that's why I always thought Bag Borrow or Steal was a silly concept).  How much would it cost to rent $3000 earrings or $5000 bracelets?

Agree with Einat would rather just buy a piece for a couple hundred Its just like the bag renting thing - I'd rather just buy a $300 bag then rent a $3000 bag for $300 or w/e the case may be

i am!  rented earrings from adornbrides.com

For example you could rent a $3,000 pair of earrings for $120.I doubt that I'll end up doing this but my thoughts are, I'm most likely only going to wear whatever i get once. So I can either get something that I like and is *nice* for $120. Or, I could get something *amazing* for the same price and wear it for the same amount of use out of it.

$120 for $3000 is something I'd definitely consider.

What is the difference (if any) between borrowing and renting from the jeweler? Is the charge different?

I would but I am pretty sure my FI is getting me travel jewelry as a wedding gift. I found a set with yellow "diamonds" that I love and it is about the same price as renting. Made more sense to me to get the really good fake stuff in case I ever want to wear it again. That said if I found something I absolutely loved that I could rent I would totally do it.

I'm too sentimental to rent but I can def. see why someone wouldAs to the pp about the difference between borrowing and renting:Most likely the people who borrow the jewlery have a personal relationship with the jewler so they actually borrow it without an associated fee.  When you rent you have the rental fee
