quick baked potato question

do you wrap it in foil before baking or just put in on the rack? I just realized I've never made baked potatoes!

I usually foil it. unless i'm in a REAL rush, in which case I poke it with a fork a few times and microwave it.  I used to do that all the time when I was in my fitness competition stage...

I usually poke it with the fork and put it directly on the rack. What does the foil do? I've never made it that way with the exception of over an open fire when camping (I was a girl scout and my dad was an eagle scout so we camped as kids)

Poking it/piercing it allows some steam to escape & it truly "bakes."I think when you wrap it in foil & trap in the steam, well, you're essentially steaming (as opposied to baking- lol) the potato which changes the textures of inside "fluff" & skin a bit.I like baked potatoes, period, but usually do not wrap them in foil... if anyone was interested LOL

i don't wrap in foil because i like the skin crispy...but don't forget to prick the potato before baking so it doesn't explode.

I prefer potatoes baked in the oven but I do sweet potatoes in the microwave, very good!
