PSA: Surge protector burnout

If you have this particular surge protector, maybe consider getting a new one: http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/product/detail/p/713I came home from work last night to find that the bottom of mine had burned out (literally, there was a burned hole in the bottom of it and about a foot of rug all around it was slightly burned). I guess a fuse had blown or something and it popped.

I don't have one, but that's scary!  Thank god nothing happened to your house!

Thanks ... yeah, my heart sank a bit when I walked into the room, saw/smelled what happened and then I didn't see the cat. Thank goodness he crawled out from under the bed, purring away. I'm so thankful nothing bad happened.

Thats really scary.  You were lucky to be home before anything really bad happened.

i would call an electrician asap.  that happened to us a few weeks ago and it actually turned out to be a problem with the outlet.  he said we probably would have had an eletrical fire within a few weeks if it had not been fixed.

Thanks Erika, I'll get FI to talk to the landlord and hopefully we can get one in ASAP.

Totally agree. I just sent him a text asking him to contact the landlord and get an electrician up there.   There's another family living below us, too, so maybe we'd also better warn him to check their place as well.
