Cher I feel your pain.  Ever since that happened to me I always make sure to chew gum like a cow whenever we take off and land.

Wow!  Maybe you should call a doc and go this afternoon, don't want anything bad to happen.

Oh yeah!!! He was miserable for like 2 days after we got home. Eventually they did pop on their own though. I normally get sinus pressure from the plane which effects my ears, jaw and cheek....but I was actually OK for that plane ride...It was him that was miserable.

here and working, trying to finish up too many things before the weekend. Cher-NOt sure if I am going to explain this right but hold your breath and your nose as tight as you can and while doing this attempt to push air out of your nose. you should feel pressure in your ears and usually feel them pop. Usually takes me two or three times to get them to fully pop but always feel so much better after.

I had a thing where it felt like my ear wouldnt pop for 3 weeks or so.  My doctor recommended mucinex.  You may want to try something like that.

ooh i have mucinex - but i took excedrine - maybe i should wait?ok future mrs - thats gonna hurt! ok trying! lol
  • edited December 2011
Thats what the doctor told me.  Truth be told I have no idea what cleared my ears up.  I took the mucinex forever and after 10 days my ears were still clogged up.  Then all of a sudden one day it got better.  I was also on antibiotics in case it was an ear infection.  I was taking too much to actually see what helped but its worth a try until you see a doctor.

a steroid would probably work too...but I don't know how you feel about that...I know for myself and FMIL when this happens (not plane related) we are put on prednisone....works like a charm

Cher just be careful, I wasn't on a plane previously, but last year I had a lot of ear issues, to be honest I suggest just going to the docs and seeing what they say.
  • edited December 2011
Future's suggestion usually works for me, but don't blow out your nose too hard! Make sure you do it gently, or you run the risk of really doing damage. It works best if I let am itsy bit of air out of my nose.
